Customer Reviews:

Stylish product, dockable, beats my WD Passport drives4
I’m a professional photographer who fills up two portable drives a year (I swap the onsite and offsite copies after each shoot). The Western Digital (WD) Passport portables I’ve been using, at 320 GB each, are full to the brim with all my 2008 ‘raw’ work. Wanting to preserve the data on them, I went shopping for two more portable drives, and came across the Seagate 500 GB GO models.

You can’t really go wrong with either drive (both companies offer a great five-year warranty), but I like the form factor of the Seagates a bit better (they’re a fraction of an inch smaller in all dimensions but LOOK even more svelte than they are). Also, an Amazon promotion currently offers a free dock with the Seagate drives, much like an iPod dock — just slide the device onto the connector and it mounts on your desktop. Handy and elegant. The WD drives don’t have this option.

The downside to using the Seagate dock (and this is why I give this setup 4 stars, not 5) is that, for reasons I don’t comprehend, it takes up TWO USB ports on your computer. Those have to be powered ports, so you can’t use a non-powered USB hub (at least that doesn’t work with my one-year-old iMac and my el-cheapo hub — your mileage may vary). The alternative is buying a powered hub, OR just not using the dock, instead connecting the drive directly to a single USB port on the computer with the supplied cable.

Speaking of USB connections: Apart from the dock, another advantage of the Seagate drive over the WD Passport is that it seems more power-efficient. At least, I can use the Seagate with my aging Powerbook and a single (supplied) cable, no problems. The WD drives, on the other hand, won’t mount on my Powerbook’s desktop unless I purchase a special three-plug “power booster” USB cable that (again) takes up two of the machine’s ports. This may be a small thing, but it’s meaningful to me. With the Seagates, I can finally just slide a capacious drive into a shirt pocket or any other available small space, and use the device on the road, nothing else necessary beyond a standard mini-to-regular USB cable (supplied) — no booster cable, no power supply.

There is also a Mac version of the Seagate drive. I inadvertently purchased the PC version but it makes zero difference, I believe: the thing works fine, no drivers needed. The Mac version contains platform-specific backup software and maybe a couple of other goodies that I don’t need or won’t miss.

Due to the idiosyncracies of file systems and how bits and bytes are counted in the computer industry, the usable capacity of the 500GB Seagate drive is actually just 465Gb. That ’shortcoming’ goes for every drive on the market, though — no big deal, just something to keep in mind.

The Seagate’s speed is fine: on my Mac, it took just under 4 minutes to copy 5 gigs’ worth of smallish files. So it’s neither a speed demon nor a slowpoke.

One more thing about the dock: It comes with a nice enough black leatherette padded sleeve for the drive. That bonus really should have been packaged with the drive instead of the dock, but I’m not complaining. The Passport drives come without a case or sleeve, and I paid another 30 bucks for two Case Logic soft-side cases at the time. I will continue to use the Case Logic cases for the Seagate GO drives, because the Seagates, outfitted with their own leatherette sleeves, fit snugly inside the Case Logic clamshell design — double protection and peace of mind.

Crashed & Burned at 7 Months1
The pluses: It’s light and small, easy to use, and comes preloaded with a document backup utility. Should be great for those who need a portable HDD as it can be dropped in a purse or slipped into a shirt pocket for transport. Decent copying speed for an external USB drive.

The negatives: There seems to be a major reliability problem with some of the hard drives (note similar recent reviews of failure at Amazon). Mine died after only 7 months of use on a personal computer. It was never jostled around or subjected to extreme temps as it never left my desktop after it was plugged in. Several utilities were unable to recover any data due to “unreadable sectors” and Master File Table errors — quite likely physical damage to the head or platters. I managed to save about 20 out of 200+ GB before the unit went totally south.

Seagate warranties the drive for 5 years, but it’s a whole lot of no fun trying to navigate their cold, impersonal website. It took several tries at their site to get the correct model name entered without being rejected as invalid. Their warranty terms are full of warnings and dire threats of legal action in case you try to defraud them. They do NOT pay for shipping the defective product to their facility (actually a warehouse in Texas used by a number of corporations for return items). They insist you pack the dead HDD, USB cord, and manual in the original package or a corrugated cardboard box surrounded by 2 inches of foam with the unit inside an ESD package. They will be happy to sell those to you for a mere $19.99. I normally keep original packaging, but it was one of those plastic jobs that practically requires a hacksaw to extract the product from, so it was trashed. I was able to scrounge up the foam and an ESD bag from previously purchased items.

Seagate will be glad to try and retrieve your lost data for a small fortune. They do not send you a new drive, but a “remanufactured” one. The box I received had very large lettering printed on top (underneath the shipping label) warning me to treat the fragile device with great care (as though I were somehow responsible for their poor quality control and defective product). Oh, and they didn’t pack the HDD in an ESD bag. On the bright side, I do have a nice box and foam in which to return my brand new remanufactured HDD when it dies.

I have a five-year-old 120 GB Seagate Barracuda internal HDD that still runs like a champ. I bought the FreeAgent Go because I thought I could depend on Seagate for it’s reliability. Judging from my experience with this hard drive, the company seems to have gone downhill quality-wise.

Works great so far BUT…3
I am using this hard drive to back-up my computer and so far it works great. The only thing that prevented me from giving it a 5-star rating is that software updates won’t install on my computer because I’m running Vista 64-bit Home Premium. Seagate only supports Vista 32-bit. No where on the packaging or in the specs for the unit is this poined out, in fact it specifically says that it is compatible with Vista.

Customer Reviews:

Make sure it’s authorized original HP ink3
I ordered this from databazaar.com and everything on it’s web page (product picture, numbers, product description) indicated new (authorized) original HP cartridge, not “used” or “remanufactured”. I received a remanufactured generic “Ink Cartridge” (no brand name). I don’t like remanufactured (it’s too light/brown & runs). I wouldn’t have spent so much money if I had known this is what I would get in place of the real HP product. Be sure you check that you’re getting what you want!

Great Cartridge5
I do a lot of B&W printing and this cartridge is a real workhorse. I don’t count the pages, but these things run a long time without replacement.

Good shelf life too. I found an old one that’s been on the shelf for longer than I can remember. Put it in my printer, and it works like a champ.

I suspect that the earlier reviewer of this item might have bought an ‘aftermarket’ refilled cartridge. I’ve had trouble with those, too. Have learned to stick with genuine OEM cartridges.

As advertised5
Product as advertised, great price and delivery. My HP printer used to reject HP and other cartridges until I downloaded and installed a firmware upgrade to the printer.

Customer Reviews:

Important Upgrade Available3
According to the specifications this product is only available for Windows 95, 98, or NT and supports just a few GPS devices. But it is based on the same program (Topo) used in National Geographic State Series, which is compatible with windows 2000, XP and 60+ GPS receivers. You only need the free Topo upgrade available at Nevertheless, TrailSmart series was created by scanning Trails Illustrated maps, so don’t expect the quality of USGS maps found in the State Series. In my opinion trails don’t have enough accuracy in this product (I tried Yellowstone).

Highly recommended for the average bacpacker5
In my opinion, this software is great, especially for a backpacker who just wants to use a GPS as a “toy”. There are 15 major national parks with 4 map views and more than adequate zoom capabilities. In addition, it is possible to create your own routes (by drawing them with your mouse), obtain elevation gains/losses, and automatically create and upload up to 30 waypoints per route to your GPS. There is a search engine to find various points of interest (mines, cemetaries, overlooks, etc) off the beaten path that will give you an exact waypoint to go exploring with a GPS unit. For the average person who likes the seclusion of the backcountry of national parks, who for the most part stays on the trails and assigned backcountry campsites, and who wants to use a GPS, this program is perfect.

Limited use, but handy3
The software itself isn’t terrible, given that it feels like it was designed about six years ago. The next time I’m going to Yosemite, I’ll be bringing a map printed by this app. The app has a very nice search feature, will import GPS waypoints, build excellent route elevation graphs, and has a system for adding wee icons to your maps.

That said, there are some pretty big problems with using the program for anything other than printing trail maps.

In the license agreement the maps you build, save, and print are referred to as “reproductions”:

- Reproductions are only for in-house, in-business, or intra-organization purposes
- National Geographic Holdings is leasing the reproductions to you; you do not own them
- All reproductions must include copyright notices indicating that the maps are owned by NGH
- Distribution of printed reproductions (for in-house use as mentioned above) is ok, but for digital reproductions you must contact NGH and get a supplemental license in writing

So, you can lease and print very nice hiking maps for use within your house, business, or company. Using the maps on web sites (even internal ones) or other digital documents is forbidden without entering license negotiations with NGH.

Customer Reviews:

Best GPS I have owned at any price5
I was a little dubious when I ordered this product as it is relatively inexpensive. The fact that this is a new product line for the Dummies people made me hesitant as well. However, I have been very happy with the unit in the two weeks I have had it.

Pros:

1. It gets a satellite fix very quickly, unlike my previous GPS devices,
which could take up to 10 minutes.
2. Very lightweight.
3. It shows road features such as medians and one way streets.
4. It speaks the street name for your upcoming turn (aka text to speech); the lack of this feature is probably the most significant drawback with inexpensive GPS units.
5. Technical support was prompt and courteous in response to my questions.

Cons:
1. No wall plug; it only comes with an auto charger.
2. Occasional map database errors.

So Easy5
I also purchased this unit on HSN. Since it was a gift for my son, I wanted to make sure that it was truly user friendly. Well, it is. You don’t have to go to a manual for directions in order to figure out how to use it. Great Product!

GPS for Dummies4
I’m confused over all the bad reviews - my GPS works great…even when I’m driving in Boston, where GPS’s are known to lose their signals repeatedly, I haven’t had a problem. Good product as far as I know and I’ve been using it for about a year now!

Customer Reviews:

Awesome, except for the microphone2
Received this product yesterday. After the initial 8 hour charge I was anxious to test it out. Comfort and sound quality are awesome. Installation was very easy if you follow the Quick-Start guide. The THX options are amazing for versatility. Range on the 2.4gHz wireless is also very delectable. I was very impressed until I went to talk to my guild mates over Ventrilo…

Every single person said I sounded very muffled / tin-e / static-e. The microphone also picks up almost every sound in the room. It is very annoying. Noise canceling microphone??? NO. More like noise amplifying microphone of terrible quality. I plugged in my old $15 headset from WalMart and my voice was back to crystal clarity to everyone in Ventrilo.

I spent about two hours of my own time alternating sound options inside Windows, Ventrilo, and the custom sound board to get my voice sounding somewhat normal over Ventrilo to no avail. I posted this issue on the official Sound Blaster forums. I am also going to create a support request. If this issue isn’t fixed or on the way to being fixed I’m going to get a refund and by a different set.

Much better!4
* * * Review Update (03/11/10) * * *

I may end up replacing the video review with something newer later on down the line, but for the time being, I’m leaving it as it is as a reminder to everyone that when you purchase a product of such relative newness, you run an increased risk of receiving an item from a bad batch with potential defects. That being said, if you accept the risks and do receive such an item, you should (obviously) have it exchanged immediately. This particular instance found me fortunate to have been helped by one of Creative’s guys here in the US: Mr. Ryan Schlieper. You can find his contact information in the comments of this review.

So yes, I missed the UPS guy the other day and was forced to wait until today to actually try out the headset. And to be honest, it was a rather painful 24 hours to wait (made even more so by the fact that the replacement set was OVERNIGHTED to me), but obviously I survived. Opening the package, I found that it had been already opened (for testing, as per Mr. Schlieper), but the wrapping and whatnot on the headset itself was still intact. Removing it from the box, I fished through the cardboard cradle in the box to find the USB transmitter.

I plugged it into my desktop and was relieved to see that Windows didn’t report any type of malfunction with it as it had the last one. I powered on the headset and noticed an immediate change from the first headset: instead of flashing rapidly from red to blue, this new headset pulsated slowly from red to white to blue.

This was already promising!

Crunch time at hand, I pressed Connect on the headset for three seconds… Check: Rapid blue blinking.

I literally held my breath as I pressed Connect on the transmitter for three seconds… SUCCESS! The two connected with each other almost immediately.

The battery in the replacement headset was apparently pretty low, so I plugged it into the desktop with the included USB cable, and got to work messing with the Audio Control Panel. Ever since I’d heard about it, the one aspect I wanted to play with was the VoiceFX technology due to being a stickler for gimmicks.

You’re given a few different selections to choose from in terms of who you want to sound like, ranging from a Gnome male to a Felguard all the way on up to Malganis. Though they were all pretty neat to tinker with, it was the Gnome male that got me (which is miraculous, as I despise Gnomes).

Have you ever heard a laugh that sounded so ridiculous, you couldn’t help but laugh yourself?

This was that laugh. Immediately upon hearing my Gnome-ified voice, I laughed. And that laughing caused me to laugh even more, and more, and more. Literally, I laughed for a solid five minutes before I couldn’t take it. Then I checked out the Village Elder setting, and there’s a distinct… warbling noise on this filter that got me once again. So if you DO end up getting this headset, you need to check those out IMMEDIATELY.

As I’ve said before, it’s truly the little things in life.

While I’m discussing mic-related issues with the headset, I’d like to make it clear that I haven’t had a chance to actually test out the headset’s mic in the field, as it were. Nobody was online at the time, so I just have the VoiceFX test to go by, but if it’s any indication of the quality to expect, I believe I’m in good hands. It’s not perfectly crystal clear, but it’s close enough for me. Certainly not distorted by any stretch of the imagination. What’s more, the mic appears to be quite sensitive: it was able to pick up the voices of the TV program I had going in the background, even though the TV was nearly muted.

Most impressive.

That aside, the Audio Control Panel is very easy to use. It lets you choose from a multitude of different colors for the lights on the headset, as well as the (already discussed) VoiceFX technology, and the THX configuration. The ACP offers an equalizer to let you control a few different aspects of the headset, including bass and surround sound. In this area of the ACP, a segment from the WotLK intro cinematic is placed to give you a baseline to adjust the settings to accordingly. For some reason unbeknownst to me, the audio from this cinematic was being piped through my speakers, even though everything else (error dings, Winamp, etc.) was coming through the headset.

No matter.

I loaded up WoW and headed on up to the Argent Tournament. Another reviewer had used the Cultist area in his review, saying that he’d heard things he hadn’t heard before, so I wanted to check that area out for myself. Honestly, I couldn’t hear anything I didn’t already hear through my speakers. This isn’t at all a bad thing, however, as my speakers are ALSO THX-certified. So to have a headset share the same quality of sound as an actual speaker system was simply amazing. Hell, even the surround sound was surprising. To review that particular aspect, I went and harassed one of the flying Frostbroods near the Tournament grounds, and rotated my character. Sure enough, the sounds did seem like they were coming from the front/sides/rear of the character, respectively.

Comfort-wise, no complaints here. I could see myself wearing these babies comfortably for HOURS on end. The padding along the underside of the top of the headset keeps the earpieces right where they need to be without any sort of waggling. Clearly, the design of the headset was very well thought out; very sturdy. The padding around the ear pieces doesn’t make contact with any part of my ears, so there’s no irritation on that front, either.

As can be seen from the images here on Amazon, the headset’s appearance is absolutely gorgeous. In fact, I dare say that its modeled in an almost Horde-like way, which most likely feeds into the excellent durability of the set. The usefulness of the headset (for WoW alone) is infinite. As I live in an apartment, the volume over the speakers has to take a considerable hit during curfew hours to placate the neighbors, but with these, that’ll no longer be an issue (which is good, because you need that volume to be able to hear the shooooom of a stealthed Rogue trying to grief you during your dailies).

Ease of installation and ease of use are pretty well matched. Some folks have reported that you can use it right out of the box, but I know that with mine on XP, the USB transmitter REQUIRED the drivers to be downloaded and installed (a paltry five-minute ordeal).

Ultimately, now that I’ve been issued a working set, I can’t imagine anything I’d want them to do differently with the headset. It’s comfortable, sound quality is excellent, mic quality is great, and the whole experience–from packaging to actual use–is very well done.

The only two (and a half) things I would recommend for Creative are the following:

The cardboard cradle that holds the USB transmitter, cable, and interchangeable Horde glyphs for the headset has no labeling of any sort. There are four distinct compartments where the items could be hiding, and only two of them, I think, are actually used. Perhaps a sticker or some sort of printing on the cardboard to show what’s in each compartment?

On the note of the glyphs, why not go ahead and make the Horde glyphs the defaults on the headset? I mean after all, Horde > Alliance. (Kidding. OR AM I?)

Initial support was grim, at best. It took a little over a full 24 hours before I was replied to, and even then, it wasn’t helpful at all, maybe even a little condescending, given that I selected “advanced user” from the list of choices in terms of computer experience. Still, Mr. Schlieper was incredibly helpful here on Amazon, and for that, I applaud Creative. Never before have my complaints been heard and addressed quite so efficiently.

So yes, if you want an excellent headset, this one is definitely worth checking out. Though as I said in the opening, if you buy a product early on… well, you know.

Apologize for long-windedness, but it needed to be said.

TLDR:
AWESOME HEADSET WITH POTENTIAL PROBLEMS FOR EARLY PURCHASERS. VOICEFX IS LOL, SOUND QUALITY AND COMFORT ARE WIN, MIC QUALITY IS KK, AND CREATIVE SUPPORT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT IN CERTAIN AREAS. PEW PEW.

* * * Original Review (03/04/10) * * *

I apologize for the poor quality in the video review. Not going for a Pulitzer or anything, though.

So I just got mine in the mail yesterday and I was impressed from the outset, what with the beautifully designed packaging containing an equally beautiful device.

However, upon unboxing the item, the problems began.

I’ll be sure to update my review, of course, but to this point, I am still unable to pair the headphones with the USB transmitter. I’ve followed the included directions to the letter, and still no joy.

I sent an e-mail to Creative customer support nearly a day ago, and have yet to receive a response.

And I’ve done all I can to eliminate possible interference from other devices. To that end, I’ve actually POWERED DOWN my router and wireless mouse. Still no joy. Drivers were successfully installed, but still: after attempting to let the device pair, it times out after a minute or so.

Obviously, aesthetic beauty can’t make up for a device that WILL NOT FUNCTION.

Update 03/05/10:
Just received a reply from Creative customer support. Nothing remarkably helpful, but at least it’s something. Will continue to keep the review updated until either return of the product, or resolution of the problem.

Update 03/06/10:
One reply in nearly 72 hours. I’m returning this to Amazon. Bravo to Amazon for their amazing support: Creative could take a page outta their book. Such a pity, it looked like an excellent product on the outside.

Update 03/09/10:
Apparently I was a bit hasty in my blasphemy against Creative support. Thanks to Mr. Schlieper, a new unit is on its way. I hope to have a review in a more positive light updated by tomorrow night.

Update 03/10/10:
Missed the UPS delivery, will have the review uploaded tomorrow for sure.

Great Presentation, Little Functionality or Customer Support2
I really was looking forward to this headset. When my pre-order arrived I absolutely was wowed by the presentation and overall look of the product. The comfort of these phones is truly amazing and I hope will be copied by others in future. Now for the negatives… The microphone did not work from the start… I can hear others in TeamSpeak, but they can’t hear me (even after making sure my settings were correct). I also noticed that my Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard go all sluggish and wacky when using these phones. Attempts to contact Creative customer support were as unpleasant as could be. They make you drill down through seemingly endless menus before you can send an email to their customer support team (tip: make sure you have your serial number or you will get no customer support) — no phone number is available. I sent my problems to them on March 5th via email and just heard back today (3/10/10)… Their answer? Try to keep the wireless headphones away from the computer’s wireless keyboard and mouse, as they can cause interference. I waited 5 days for *that*! Kind of hard to seperate the computer keyboard, mouse and headset when playing a game on the computer…

The most ironic thing of all is the mouse and keyboard are acting up the worst in WOW when paired with the headset, making it unplayable. Looks like these phones are going back to Amazon. I love the concept and the look of the phones, but Creative’s execution and customer service are terrible. Oh well. :-(

The EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens could very well be the essential multipurpose lens for every camera bag due to its ability to capture sharp close-up images of small objects as well as beautiful portrait-length telephoto shots. The incorporation of Canon’s new Hybrid IS in this L-series macro lens allows it to compensate more effectively for camera shake during close-up shooting and marks a significant improvement for professionals and advanced amateurs utilizing macro photography for portrait, nature or wedding shoots.New Hybrid IS Technology: Designed Especially for Macro PhotographyThe world’s first* optical image stabilizer for SLR cameras was introduced in the EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM in 1995. Since then, Canon has made continual advancements in IS systems to enhance panning capability and improve compensation for camera shake. Now, in a move aimed at extending image stabilization to the macro realm, Canon introduces its Hybrid IS in the new EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM another first for Canon and the world.Conventional image stabilization technology is useful for reducing the effects of camera shake in non-macro shooting situations. When shooting handheld close-ups at 1x, however, camera shake makes it difficult to achieve acceptable results even with lenses incorporating conventional image stabilizers. Now, thanks to the Hybrid IS found in the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM, Canon extends IS technology to the macro realm, making it easy to obtain clear handheld close-ups a world first* and a definite advantage in environments where use of a tripod is not an option.

Best macro lens by far5
I love Canon. Although there were times when I shot with Nikons (D700, D300) and were pretty impressed with the result, I always came back to Canon.
This is the first is macro lens for Canon and they got it right. I have used the 60mm, 100mm, & 180mm macro before and by far this is the best!
Now, if you already own a 100mm macro you should try it before upgrading because the IQ of the lens are identical. I usually use this lens for portraits (yes, I know the 85mm & 135mm is a better portrait lens.) of my daughter and the IS is awesome. Hand holding 1/40 I can still get a sharp picture.

The thing that I really hated about the non-IS 100mm macro was the distribution of weight - it was the most awkward thing to shoot with. This lens feels lighter because of the even distribution of weight and size (gradual taper) and it includes a deep hood.

I know $1K is a hefty sum of cash, but considering what you get and how long it can last you - I don’t know why you would settle for the non-IS.

— Edit —

I found that for portrait, the bokeh on this thing is incredibly smooth. Instead of the angular blurs (lights, flowers, etc), you get a smooth circular blurs due to its spherical diaphragm. But I guess that’s in the eye of the beholder…

Everything you might expect, IS behaves well5
I wasn’t certain this lens would be a good value or choice for an APS-C camera. Having recently purchased a 7D, I felt the focal length might be too long, but didn’t want the EF-S 60mm macro, when I expect to purchase a body with a full-frame sensor in a couple years. For anyone considering a 100mm Macro, I’m 6×6″ tall, and was able to squeeze in an 8×11″ sheet of paper on the floor, while standing with my 20D.

I evaluated the EF 100mm Macro and this lens side-by-side. The older 100mm Macro has a great reputation. From the specifications, you’ll see that the new lens is slightly longer, and weighs more. The build quality is excellent and consistent with an L lens. Optics are precise. Color and Bokeh are outstanding, as review samples attest.

Auto focus and manual focus are smooth and deliberate. As with other Macros, the focus is precise, but moves slower than a standard telephoto lens of the same focal length. It takes approximately 2.5 seconds to focus from infinity to .3m. It takes approximately 3.0 seconds to focus from .3m to infinity, as the mechanism delays .5 seconds when autofocus is initiated.

The focusing limiter selector switch functions well, eliminating the time to focus, if you know your subject will be between .3m to .5m, or .5m to infinity. The ranges offer a good compromise between focusing element travel and practical subject distances. .3m to .5m represents a 180 degree turn of the focusing ring, and .5m to infinity represents about a 150 degree turn of the focusing ring.

I purchased this lens over the older 100mm Macro for the image stabilization. The image stabilization allows the hand held use of the lens under brighter lighting conditions. The image stabilization certainly behaves differently from other L lenses at 100mm. Telephoto IS may allow you to pan, this lens does not. Better shots will be obtained with IS on while tracking a moving subject; however, IS on this lens is no substitute for a telephoto with panning IS ability. The new IS technology does seem better suited for macro shots than earlier IS techonlogy. The subject seems to “stick” on this lens, as compared with images that seem to “float” with other IS lenses.

IS compensates for movement quite well, but I will shoot low-light subjects on a tripod. With IS on and and shooting at 2.8, the depth of field is extremely shallow. Any movement toward or away from the subject will result in an out-of-focus image. My 1.6 sensor certainly exacerbates the problem. If you need to obtain a more adequate depth of field, you must shoot at 8.0 or above, which will require longer shutter times under low lighting.

Outdoors, this lens will provide unique opportunities in allowing one to complete hand-held shots of bright-lit subjects, especially if you have a full-frame sensor.

Sharpest lens I have ever had.5
I hardly ever write reviews but I felt that I really needed to write a quick note about how amazing this macro lens is. I used to be a Nikon gal until I sold my D300 for the Canon 7D. I also gave up my beloved 105mm Nikkor macro lens at that time, with much trepidation. Would I ever find a lens as sharp with as good IQ? Well, I have no more fears — the 100mm IS macro fits that bill and more! It is simply amazing. I have the 24-70mmL and 70-200mmL lenses and this macro blows both lenses out of the water as far as IQ and sharpness. I cannot describe the beauty of the colors of my macro flowers! I posted a couple pix with this review… It is also a sharper lens than my 70-200L IS f/4, which I think is a superb lens on it’s own. The bokah with this lens is also smoother than the 70-200. Again, a pleasant surprise since I also love that lens. I cannot ever imagine anyone being disappointed with this macro. Just buy it with a credit card that gives you cash back or miles because the price tag is steep.

Better sound! (just kidding)5
Well, maybe not. My original battery for my Sansa c250 wasn’t taking a charge well. So I bought this. Using this battery improves the sound quality because my c250 plays music with it when the original battery wouldn’t (i.e., was dead). So yeah, it doesn’t get five stars for sound quality!

Also, look at “upgrading” your firmware to RockBox. It will improve your battery life and definitely improve the sound quality by adding support for OGG and FLAC formats.
