Well, maybe not ALL. Naturally, the humor can earn a bit provocative, though it’s a far shout from today’s downright shameless standards! In “Elvira, Mistress of the Shaded,” Cassandra reprises her legendary TV awe hostess role as the character comes to a turning point in her career. Frustrated with an unsatisfying job and blatant sexual harassment from her unique boss, the always heroic Elvira drops everything to pursue her dream of doing her have expose in Las Vegas. The forces seem to be against our heroine, however, in the originate of the bad locals. But, the effort of them ruining her expose is the least of her worries! “Elvira, Mistress of the Sunless” is broad campy fun in the lawful spirit of Cassandra Peterson’s beloved television icon! The comely prima donna with gothic good-looks and a enthralling, bad, yet well-intentioned and sometimes surprisingly bubbly personality transfers successfully to the tall camouflage thanks to the overflowing talent and charm of the dazzling Miss Peterson, who effortlessly carries the film from beginning to destroy. No quiz about it, this film is ALL about Elvira, and that’s a proper thing! Familiar faces dot the cast, and the acting skills vary, but in a goofy, goodtime comedy like this, it all works well together! So, if you are a fond fan like me, or if you are impartial dull challenging, you gotta give this a inspect! Extras include two riotous trailers and a thorough, readable bio on Cassandra Peterson. Tremendous for viewing around Halloween or heavenly noteworthy anytime!

And, after Elvira, win a side-splitting sprint to Transylvania! For a favorable time, call…

“Transylvania 6-5000!” Jeff Goldblum plays straight-man tabloid reporter to child-like partner Ed Begley Jr. in this hilarious monster-movie spoof, as they are sent on a mission to Transylvania to order the truth about a suspicious videotape that allegedly features the genuine Frankenstein monster! As interested Gil (Begley Jr.) pursues the anecdote, skeptical Jack (Goldblum) pursues a aesthetic American tourist with a puny daughter. Everything seems to be aloof and quaint in the charming and very hospitable Transylvanian village, but, once the two reporters commence to work together, they witness there is more to the sleepy cramped town than meets the scrutinize! There are physical gags and witty banter aplenty in this fantastically 80’s style select on “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein,” complete with Jeffrey Jones as the Mayor, John Byner and Carol Kane as dimwitted servants, and Joseph Bologna as the furious doctor. All contribute laughs by the cartful, but it’s Geena Davis and Seinfeld’s Michael Richards who really pick the demonstrate as a nymphomaniac vampiress named Odette and Fejos, the token brute. Those of you who savor the comedy teams of yester-year will procure a kick out of the chemistry between Goldblum and Begley Jr., and they’ll gain you wish that films like this (and “Brain Donors”) were more successful. The commentary by the director/writer and visual consultant is quite informative and toothsome, the trailers and TV spots are a kick, and this widescreen DVD even includes galleries of storyboards and stills. Not at all poor for one feature on a highly affordable double feature DVD! One would have expected something bare bones for such a film, but Anchor Bay really delivered. If you dig Abbott and Costello style laughs with a Transylvanian touch, this flick is for you!

So, there you have it! 4 stars for each film, 5 for putting them both on one affordable disc! Either you’ve seen these films before or you’re spicy about them for some oddball reason, or you wouldn’t be reading this review. So do yourself a favor and assume this disc up! You’ve got two safe chances to be gratified you did!

I will admit that I bought this dvd fair for the Elvira film. It is a vast cult flick that I have liked ever since I saw it in it’s unusual release befriend in 1988. There were quite a few cheap version of this dvd floating around and although Anchor Bay did release it by itself a few years ago, I did not capture it because it was about $14.99 and only had the trailer and a teaser as extras. I saw this version for under ten dollars so decided to take it even though I had never seen Transylvania 6-5000 before. Elvira is very amusing, but the same cannot be said about the second film. Transylvania 6-5000 tries to be a spoof of old-fashioned dread films, but this was done great better by Young Frankenstein over ten years earlier. There are some amusing moments, but largely it is beefy of cliches and some really dull humor. It does boast a talented cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Geena Davis, Michael Richards, Jeffrey Jones and John Byner but the script leaves them with exiguous to do. Tranquil this dvd is worth it for Elvira alone.

at first, I was skeptical bout this release. having only seen Greg when he was roasting someone. but after watching this dvd. I was relieved to view that Greg Girado has a presence on stage. I’m not going to give out any jokes because that would unprejudiced be mean. but check it out. you will laugh your ass off.

He skillfully tricks you into believing he’s fair your average comedian whose performance is ridden with cliche narratives of the American cultural landscape. But you’ll soon rep you’ve been fooled. I gather the more aware a comedian, the better he is. He must prefer risks with the audience. Sometimes he must trust that his audience is not vanilla but again we’re not sick pervs either. With awareness of this, Giraldo is able to become several spacious comedians at once with material that is indecent (Stanhope) and political (Maher, Stewart) . He also does numerous pieces that get fun of our exercise of language, reminiscent of the slack Carlin. Nevertheless Giraldo is not fair a mish-mesh of other comedians, he masterly weaves everything in a special design. Each joke is not random, he’s telling a record that hopefully should vibrate with the younger generations.

Avatar is exceptionally written, perhaps the best moving series ever to air in America. It’s so capable that acclaimed Director, M. NIGHT SHYAMALAN,(The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, The Happening) called it, “The coolest mythology I’ve ever seen,” and assign his maintain screenwriting on possess to consume the next six years producing/directing a BIG-SCREEN LIVE-ACTION TRILOGY of this record.

Adults may collect the occasional humorous relief a bit cheesy, but will appreciate the character development, psychological depth, mythos, realistic martial arts, “special effects”, and the worthy insights into Asian philosophy, sociology, and mythology, and even politics. I’ve been studying Asian culture and philosophy and teaching in Asia for years and I’ve gained insights from this series because the writers have found ways to introduce and account for Asian idea so simply that even kids can “procure it”. Ideas like chakras, Daoism, and Chinese philosophy of the balance and properties of the natural Elements are brought to life and illustrated in the characters lives, situations, and cultural settings. I bought this to observe my nephews (though I often ogle it when they’re not here too) and I reflect it’s awesome because as they grow up in an increasingly Asian world, I consider what they were exposed to in this present will do Asian culture (Chinese, Tibetan, Japanese, Indian, Korean) noteworthy more accessible and comprehensible to them than it was to me when I studied it.

Don’t the the animation fool you, this series is a tale of exceptional crafting, on par with STAR WARS and LORD OF THE RINGS.

Mesmerizingly Provocative and uniquely EDUCATIONAL! With or without kids, you’ll Treasure it!

I adore this series. I like the fact that the movements are right, I like the fact that each “slight bit” of information has a bigger role than what it seems. The consistancy is objective as awesome. I am a anime fan, an although this present has it’s similarities to one its completely different. But it’s not like some other american curious series’ either, that never has an waste, and almost each episode stands on its occupy. The epic line is quite different. It has it’s complexities of an anime, but the fun and jokes are absolutely western style. Well I hope this helps out the next customer enthusiastic. Oh by the diagram….they are going to perform a live action movie… I hope it’s honest as awesome.

I saw this movie when it was in the theater in 1989. I liked it so mighty that I had to remove it on VHS. Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor star as two innocent guys-one deaf, one blind, and both are on the race for a execute they didn’t commit! Add the fabulous talents of Joan Severance and Kevin Spacey, and you have the makings of one well scripted and very droll movie! Oh, and let’s not forget Alan North as the police chief. The film’s place makes for a cops and robbers type of suspense. Of all of Gene Wilder’s and Richard Pryor’s works, “Observe No Sinful, Hear No Execrable” is as equally silly as “Silver Stride”, which makes it a must lift!

I’ve seen this film five times since it was first released.

As I grow in age and sight this movie, I feel almost robbed that I wasn’t either around, or used enough to be pleased the pure genius that both Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor held.

This film is about a blind man (played wonderfully by Richard Pryor) who’s down on his luck and in need of a job. Luckily for him, a deaf newsstand owner (played with all the laughable gusto he can muster by Gene Wilder) happens to be hiring.

Buy,Download, Or Stream See No Evil, Hear No Evil! Click Here

Pryor owes a bookie tremendous time, and when the bookie comes looking for him at his novel position of employment, chaos ensues because he’s murdered. Wally (Pryor) doesn’t peek it, and Dave (Wilder) doesn’t hear it. The murderers fetch away and Dave and Wally are suspected. Their misson: positive their name.

Craziness and hilarity ensue.

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor are two highly underrated talents before the camera. The adventures that these two terrible characters go through is something that a wide audience can relish. The utilize of two ailments such as deafness and blindness is not exploited or made fun of, unbiased traditional for broad laughable timing and situations.

If you’re a fan of substantial comedy, and glorious pleasant action that features two silly geniuses, I highly suggest this film.

Inspired by the Japanese movie (released in the United States as ANTARTICA), which was based upon the factual fable of a 1958 Japanese expedition, the exact antecedent of this movie is Egerton R. Young’s trustworthy chronicle of his dogsled team, first published in 1902. This was the first book to detail the different personalities among dogs and the first to report their work ethic and sense of responsibility.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Eight Below! Click Here

Jack London acknowledged his debt to Egerton Young’s memoirs (among other sources) which he took to craft the dogsled team in THE CALL OF THE WILD, something missing in the various incarnations of the recent on film. EIGHT BELOW captures the true intelligence of siberian huskies (well, two of them are malamutes) better than any movie I’ve ever seen. Obvious, this is fair a movie and tricks were primitive to produce it appear that these dogs do what they seem to do. But huskies do smile, laugh, distress, contemplate, and bond–and if you don’t agree, then you objective don’t know them.

Yes, there are some sentimental and maudlin moments in this film, but there is also a sense of naturalism and a declaration of personal responsibility. An adventure film that is rare and welcome and worth seeing again.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Eight Below! Click Here

The musical bag is aesthetic and nicely edited to fit the mood of each scene, ambient but not overwhelming. Both humans and dogs are underplayed, and it struck me as a movie for adults who can exercise their imagination to gain in the gaps in understated dialogue and character development. The beauty of the scenery is often breathtaking.

It was a nice touch that one of the dogs, the oldest, is named Jack, and one is named Buck. Buck was also the name of the protagonist in THE CALL OF THE WILD and Jack was the name of Egerton Young’s valid dog upon which Buck was based. Of course it may be fair a coincidence.

The other dogs include the twins, Truman and Dewey (a Democrat and a Republican), Shorty, Max, Shadow, and sweet Maya, the lead dog. Dog people will have no worry distinguishing between them.

Those who worship this film might be also enthusiastic in Egerton Young’s MY DOGS OF THE NORTHLAND, Jack London’s THE CALL OF THE WILD, edited and annotated by Daniel Dyer, and Gary Paulsen’s WINTERDANCE: THE Beautiful MADNESS OF RUNNING THE IDITAROD.

This is an generous family movie about an Antartica adventure. Although Jason Biggs of American Pie is in it, this time he’s the usual goofball but without any expressionless humor and not one unpleasant word anywhere in the film. It’s wonderful family entertainment. The sage is about a scientific post in Antartica that uses eight Huskies to net around with selds in the snow-barren wilderness of the South Pole. Effort starts for the dogs when Winter arrives early and the dogs have to survive by themselves which is documented in the film as is also the human aspect of leaving the dogs leisurely to fight for themselves. The scenery and photography is breathtaking and it is a well-made Disney movie. It is based on a correct anecdote and that makes it even more provocative. Don’t compare this film to Snow Dogs as this film is not a comedy and the area, storyline and premise are completely different. Aside from the dogs as heros, Paul Walker plays the human hero and he plays the role of an expedition guide very believably. Some concepts of the human psyche which may have been intended to be communicated in this flick, clearly miss the trace as these are not communicated, but it doesn’t matter … it’s a super family movie which the juniors as well as dog lovers will really enjoy and be pleased. Also, a lot about the behavior and kindness/faithfulness of the four-legged friends is shown. My wife liked this film very powerful and she said the DVD once released is a certain acquire. Although this movie is two hours long and there are some unimaginative passages, the two hours don’t seem like two hours at all. This film is about a very true adventure and it’s well worth watching it.

This is easily one of the smartest and funniest shows on television… intelligent or otherwise! It’s a shame that Sony has yet to greenlight season 3 (possibly due to the fact that the two episodes that were banned from airing stateside appear on this region and Sony might be taking a wait and recognize attitude to spy what BET will do in response since it was BET’s threat to sue that got the episodes banned in the first spot) . If you are easily offended by any sort of shameful language or racial humor and satire, this present is NOT for you! As for BET… if BET execs are so concerned with how they’re portrayed in these episodes, perhaps they should reflect improving the quality of their programs rather than broadcasting… whatever it is they continue to pass off as entertainment. Sorry… I’ll regain off my soapbox now.

I found info that this dvd will be uncensored and uncut honest like the first season. And not only that, but it’s the complete second season, all 15 episodes including the 2 that never aired in the US. So no censorship. It will also acquire 4 featurettes, 2 ‘minisodes’, and audio commentaries on selected episodes picked by Aaron McGruder. Delight In.

Season 2 of Supernatural has far exceeded my expectations and it has far surpassed it’s debut season, which I didn’t reflect was possible. Dean and Sam have matured and bonded over countless “hunts” protecting strangers from creatures they couldn’t even imagine in their worst nightmares. The acting in this season has been well-behaved. Both actors, Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) and Jared Padelecki (Sam Winchester) have assign in substantial performances. I judge they both deserve Emmy’s! My common eposides for each would be Jensen’s performance in “In My Time of Dying,” “Children Shouldn’t Play with Monotonous Things,” “What Is and What Should Never Be (aka I Dream of Genie),” and “All Hell Breaks Loose Portion II.” Jared has blown me away in “Hunted,” “Houses of the Holy,” “Born Under a Awful Stamp,” “Heart,” and “All Hell Breaks Loose Section I.” There are some fantastically droll episodes “The Usual Suspects,” Titanic Tales,” “Hollywood Babylon,” and “Folsom Prison Blues.” The mix of suspense and humor are well balanced.

I worship the arrangement that Eric Kripke, et al, add objective the correct music/song to foreshadow what is coming or what has happened in the episode. It all unprejudiced ties together making the music almost another character on the point to.

Another mountainous thing about this season is that the brothers meet with some recent friends and reconnect with some ragged ones making recurring roles from Bobby, in particular, very toothsome. There have been some amazing guest stars on the indicate from Linda Blair in “Usual Suspects,” Tricia Helfer was wonderful in “Roadkill,” and Emmanuelle Vaugier in “Heart” was fair perfect. There are so many surprises this season that honest preserve you on the edge of your seat. After watching the season finale it looks like Season 3 promises to continue the thrills.

The DVD is packed with special features. Of course they include the gag reel (which is always fun) . There are unaired scenes and commentary from the directors, producers, and Jared and Jensen. I even heard it will have Jared Padalecki’s recent mask test. It will be consuming to perceive how he interpreted the character from the beginning and compare how his character has grown over the two seasons.

I already have the episodes downloaded on my Ipod, but will definitely assume the season for the DVD features.

- Jennifer

In the midst of this television season’s coverage of “Lost”’s drop from grace and eventual comeback and the enormous waves made by “Heroes”, not to mention the slew of increasingly brazen reality TV saturating the market this gem of a reveal got lost in the waddle. Season one was a solid commence for the exhibit, elephantine of monster-and-hottie-of-the-week stories that stood alone while very slowly giving us an inkling of a larger location at work before ending with a delicate cliffhanger. The music was unbelievable, the guest stars intellectual, and the homages to classic and novel dismay were thick. If you missed it, now’s the time to find up because season two is a winner in every possible plan. The first episode is among the greatest season openers I’ve ever had the pleasure of viewing and it shakes this explain to it’s very core and sets the tone for the entire year’s events. From there, Sam and Dean space out to accept revenge for their deceased family members and place as many people as they can along the design. Second verse, same as the first, upright? Well, no, not quite. We collected salvage our monsters-of-the-week and our cute guest stars and our classic rock soundtrack, but the tone of this season is so noteworthy darker and the events so traumatic that the stakes unbiased seem to be on a whole other level. Friendships are made and broken, loyalties are tested, long-standing beliefs are challenged, all three Winchesters fight for their very souls, and almost nobody’s getting out whole. This season is a tooth-and-nail battle for survival and while it calm has a hefty dose of the humor that made the first season so powerful fun, it’s distinct that this display is no longer impartial playing around at having a larger station. This is the trusty deal. Among the baddies met along the procedure are more vampires (one played by an almost unrecongnizable Amber Benson of “Buffy” fame), a rogue hunter, a living tedious girl, a female werewolf (in the most heart-wrenching episode of any present I’ve seen this season), a deal-making demon for those who remember the record of Robert Johnson, some of Sam’s fellow “gifted” children (we do learn their secret), and a Norse trickster god to name a few. The music, if anything, has gotten better this season and so have the guest stars. My current guest performance has got to be the loveable Katherine Isabel from cult-classic werewolf flick “Ginger Snaps” who shows up twice and inspires adoration in every frame she’s in. If you missed this reveal on the CW, shame on you; now purchase this position. If you missed the first season select that dwelling too. This note is so expedient I’d loathe to eye it die because nobody bothered to spy it for themselves. These kinds of shows are notoriously short-lived and the television big-wigs have puny patience for them so when one of this caliber gets on the air and stays on the air, we need to withhold it that scheme in every blueprint we can. Aid apprehension, sci-fi, and fantasy television now, and we’ll be rewarded with more later. I hope.

First, let me launch by saying that the only reason I don’t give this 5 stars is that I wanted a bit more from the commentary track, as I present below.

The screech of this unbelievable movie is covered amply elsewhere, so I won’t tell what others have so well synopsized. I WOULD like to point out a couple of things about this particular DVD:

Buy,Download, Or Stream Young Frankenstein! Click Here

1) The commentary track is accessible from the the LANGUAGE SELECTION menu, rather than from the special features menu (as is usual for commentary tracks) . I was terribly frustrated by this until I got some wait on from Christian at boldopinions.com (thanks Christian!) .

2) Yes, the commentary track IS mostly Mel babbling, but there are some nice tidbits here (many of the cut-away shots were set in because Gene Wilder kept breaking, Mel conception “Puttin’ On The Ritz” was frivolous, etc.) . It’s also heart-breaking to hear about how Marty Feldman’s health habits led to his death at age 59. Unfortunately, since Mel’s commentary leans toward the personal, we don’t secure to hear about the roots of the dart-throwing scene (practically a duplication of a scene in “Son of Frankenstein”) — and I would Convey that the trees going by the window in the Transylvanian insist sequence are the same ones in the tell sequence in “Son of Frankenstein.” So we can’t have everything.

3) The documentary is really wonderful– it’s sure that everyone has warm feelings about the film, and the recollections are keen and insightful. It gives the movie added dimension, so don’t pass it over.

I haven’t seen mention in the Amazon reviews of “Young Frankenstein” the multiple homages to “Son of Frankenstein,” not the least of which is Gene Wilder’s spot-on lord-of-the-manor affectations through many of the early Transylvanian sequences (in his grandfather’s bedroom: “And where is my grandfather’s PRIVATE library? …[book snatched from shelf] Why, these books are all very general [snap snap snap the pages]; any doctor might have them in his view [SLAP book closed]” and the entirety of the aforementioned dart-throwing scene (in which Wilder is positively CHANNELING Basil Rathbone) . So get “Son of Frankenstein” ALSO required viewing prior to seeing “Young Frankenstein.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Young Frankenstein! Click Here

Finally, I deem that Mel hits the nail on the head when he says (repeatedly) that so many scenes are emotional at the same time that they’re being amusing. This film was made with such adore by all concerned, and it shows. Yes, it can be occasionally crass, and go for positive cheap laughs (albeit Worthy less so than any movie Mel has made before or since), but what one ultimately takes away from this movie is the improbable amount of care everyone took with the project. Hell, you might even derive yourself with a plug in your ogle at the extinguish (I did– the awesome derive by John Morris helps a lot!) . Alas, Mel and Gene were never again to collaborate on a script (it is unbelievable that the Borscht Belt comedy of Mel Brooks and the hopeless romanticism of Gene Wilder found such fertile creative ground in the first region!), so this movie is lightning in a bottle (pun intended) . Don’t miss it.

This may unprejudiced be the funniest movie of all time. Mel Brooks never before (and never again) worked with the tight parameters he did here: gene Wilder actually wrote most of the script, and that plus the exercise of the old-fashioned Universal sets and props seem to have kept Borooks’s more sophomoric instincts (which have gone overboard in some of his later films) tightly in check. Thus he–and everyone else in the film–is doing their absolutely finest work ever.

From Teri Garr “rolling in ze hay,” to Kenneth Mars’s inspired Police Inspector, everyone in the entire film seems to be working at their most hysterically hilarious. Special mention must be given to Gene Wilder giving one of his most classic performances of his strangled-fury schtick ever (”Establish… the candle… befriend!!!”) and to Peter Boyle, for his very poignant and comical depiction of the Monster.

But standing above all of the ruin in terms of sheer brilliance is Madeline Kahn, giving what must be the funniest female performace ever on film as Frankenstein’s fiancee and the monster’s eventual bride. Unlike everyone else in the film, she’s not really parodying anyone other than herself; yet nevertheless her depiction of Elizabeth, the wealthy prude who discovers she’s a volcano of passion undeneath, is so comical I’m practically crying almost every time I leer this film. There’s one brief petite scene where she’s brushing her hair in her boudoir before the Monster steals into her room and kidnaps her, and for absolutely no apparent reason(which makes the scene all the funnier) she’s giving vent to a deeply lusty rendition of “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” while brushing out her hair. It is the funniest five seconds in the entire film–and in a film this hilarious that’s saying a lot.

Ben Gazzara is a perfect bully in a military academy. He uses his residence of authority to decide his gain accounts with one cadet, the son of the major of the academy, and the major himself. He terrorizes and crushes the freshmen cadets in all possible ways to enact his acquire slay which is pure domination. The interest of the film is the unanimous rebellion among the cadets and their final treatment of the bully they exclude from the academy after making him heed a confession of his « crimes ». The best piece in the role is the fact that the bully always assumes an aristocratic stand and not a purely violent attitude. He dominates like a feudal squire or baron of feeble and he always manages to enwrap other people in his beget acts so that he can blackmail them into lying and silence. But the final treatment reveals him to be nothing but a coward, unnerved of suffering and shy by the perspective of losing his power impartial as if his power was the only thing he could contain on, he needed to be anything, to respect himself. Power corrupts, it’s apt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Dr Jacques COULARDEAU

This would be one of the best movies of this era I have seen, Ben Gazzara is as hilariously noxious as ever. I detest to reflect how many times I have watched this movie.

This is the second attempt to manufacture a movie out of a Terry Pratchett current and it succeeds rather well. In this case, the movie is based on the first two novels in the ‘Discworld’ series, ‘The Colour of Magic’ and ‘The Light Fantastic’.

Rincewind (David Jason), an inept wizard, is expelled from Unseen University. On a dare, he snuck a observe at the Octavo, the book customary to form the world, and one of the eight vast spells lodged in his head.

At the same time, Twoflower (Sean Astin) arrives in Ankh-Morpork to “discover at it”. He’s the Discworld’s first tourist and he travels with the Luggage, a box made of sapient pearwood that moves about on hundreds of cramped legs and will follow it’s owner everywhere.

After conning Twoflower, Rincewind is dragged to the Patrician’s palace and ordered by Lord Vetinari (Jeremy Irons) to guide Twoflower safely through the city.

Twoflower, introducing the belief of fire insurance to Ankh-Morpork, inadvertently causes the entire city to burn down and he and Rincewind race and Rincewind is plunged into several life threatening situations which he survives by sheer luck.

The apt parts of this movie are Jeremy Irons as the Patrician and Tim Curry as Ymper Trymon, second in snarl of one of the eight orders of wizardry at the university. Both play their roles with devour and Curry’s performance is as top-notch, if not better, than that of Cardinal Richelieu in ‘The 3 Musketeers’.

The abominable parts? Well, a lot of the pleasant scenes in both novels are left out. There is no travelling shop, no Hrun the Barbarian, no flying rock and no Tethis the sea troll. There is also no gingerbread cottage or broomstick flying.

Also, they unfortunately chose a white actor to narrate Twoflower, when it’s made sure in both ‘The Colour of Magic’ and ‘Interesting Times’ that Twoflower is Chinese. A accurate shame, but Sean Astin does a unbelievable job at portraying Twoflower’s attitude of looking at the world through rose coloured glasses.

And they got Cohen the Barbarian’s (David Bradley) teeth inappropriate.

Although this movie takes a while to accumulate going, it does collect funnier as it goes along and there are some mountainous one-liners. “I am having a come Rincewind experience.”

Christopher Lee reprises the disclose of Death, as he did in the though-provoking versions of ‘Soul Music’ and ‘Wyrd Sisters’ and he has some of the best parts in the movie.

Aside from the microscopic annoyances, the movie is quite superb, the actors are excellent, it’s got all the wittiness you’d ask from Pratchett, and I loved it.

A live-action Terry Pratchett movie is either doomed to fail in every scheme, or succeed in practically everything.

And “The Colour of Magic,” adapted from the first two novels in Pratchett’s quick-witted Discworld series, is more the faded than the latter. This one is no “Hogather” — it has rather tedious direction at times — but it preserves Pratchett’s wry satirical sense of humour. And of course, it’s all about a mercenary, cowardly failed wizard.

Rincewind (David Jason) is ejected from the Unseen University, on the very day that Twoflower (Sean Astin) arrives with his many-legged Luggage. He’s approach to the Disc… to “seek at it.” But after Rincewind tries to con Twoflower, the Patrician (Jeremy Irons) orders Rincewind to be the guide/bodyguard of the Disc’s first ever tourist.

After a massive fire sweeps through the city, the two waste up fleeing Ankh-Morpork and running into all sorts of unique things — a very assertive magic sword, a floating island fat of see-through dragons, a dramatic dragonlady in a leather bikini, astrozoologists trying to decide Titanic A’Tuin’s gender, the obsolete Cohen the (retired) Barbarian, druids, and even getting thrown definite off the Disc in a unique spacecraft. And you understanding YOU had problems.

Unfortunately the Unseen University is having troubles of its hold — the magical book Octavo is acting unfamiliar, and power-hungry Trymon (Tim Curry) is scheming against the Archchancellor. Even worse, a unfamiliar red star has appeared in the sky, and the world is facing destruction. The only thing that can put it is the spell in Rincewind’s head.

Perhaps it’s because it’s based on the first, roughest Discworld books, but “Colour of Magic” is not quite as amusing or tightly-written as its predecessor, “Hogather.” The writing is not quite as complex or as witty, and the direction sometimes feels a bit behind (such as the bar fight scene, or Trymon skulking and schemind around the University) .

But despite these drawbacks, “Colour of Magic” is unexcited a vastly enchanting record — it has a solid plotline and it chugs away nicely after a somewhat slothful beginning, and blossoms into full-out complexity about halfway through. Once it gets underway it starts to resemble a road-trip through fantasy-land, with our quirky tourist and wizard bungling their design across the Disc.

Along the arrangement there’s some fun action (an upside-down duel), comic dialogue (”You weren’t born with a mysterious birthmark in the shape of a crown, were you? “), and a general air of tongue-in-cheekness. Best of all, it’s a fantasy spoof — Vadim Jean preserves Pratchett’s clever satire aimed at the staples of your average fantasy: fantasy babes, prophecies, magic swords, retired barbarians, much artifacts, and even the conception of reality warping itself to attach the “hero.”

Jason is wonderfully snivelly and sour as Rincewind, a failed wizard who basically finds himself repeatedly swept up into bizarre, deadly circumstances even though he didn’t want to be eager. Astin is even better as the hilariously oblivious Twoflower, who regards every effort as yet another sizable adventure (”We’re going to hurry out of world!” “I have to survey that!”) .

And there’s a talented supporting cast — Curry chews the scenery with sneering aplomb, Karen David plays a humorously over-the-top dragon-lady, and Irons has a cramped but amazing role as the cold, efficient Vetinari. And of course, the radiant Christopher Lee takes over as an increasingly disappointed Death.

“Colour of Magic” isn’t as tightly directed as it could have been, but it calm manages to be clever and quite laughable.
