This is one of the most distinguished films I’ve seen in quite some time. In fact, it has lurched into the pantheon of my all-time current movies! It is a somewhat curious mixture of diverse ingredients, with elements of Office Location - Special Edition with Flair (Widescreen Edition) and High Fidelity and even some allusions to Gladiator (Widescreen Edition) thrown in unprejudiced for fun. On top of that, great of it makes you feel like you’re in the Twilight Zone, yet there’s some downright slap-stick comedy that is stirred in for one extraordinary concoction of a yarn!

The DVD details the life of an artist (Sean Biggerstaff) who is having an terrible time getting over his ex-girlfriend who unprejudiced dumped him. He’s having such a rough time, in fact, that he can’t sleep. I mean, literally - he has the worst case of insomnia the world has ever seen. Finally, he gets a job working 3rd shift at a supermarket, unprejudiced for something to do.

At the execrable, what this movie seems to be “all about” to me is a sort of meditation on feminine beauty, and the device that (straight) men scrutinize that beauty. Yes, this includes the female nude, but in an artistic design as opposed to being sleazy. The film is pudgy of useful flashbacks that relieve us understand the evolution of an artist’s perception of women. Many of these flashbacks,in fact, I could characterize to in my enjoy life.

Be warned that this is a very “different” sort of movie. Being an independent film, it goes well off of the beaten-track, and to me that’s a satisfactory thing. While I’m positive there are plenty of people who will look this and say “Boy, that was peculiar” I’m also confident that there are many who will say “Wow, I’d like to look more introspective flicks like that!” I belong to the latter group.

In 2006, the short film Cashback was nominated for a best live-action short Oscar. Writer/Director Sean Ellis then went on to bound the short about a night-shift worker in a supermarket into a feature about a night-shift worker in a supermarket. Using the same actors, and even most of the footage from the modern short, Ellis adds a painful breakup to our hero’s life, which brings on a case of incurable insomnia. Looking for a plan to cash in on his inability to sleep, art student Ben Willis (Sean Biggerstaff) applies for a job at an all-night supermarket.

Anyone remember Saved By the Bell and Zack Morris’s envy-worthy ability to deny the phrase “time-out” and thus freeze time? In Cashback Ben has this same ability, but he uses it in a great more libidinous way: to undress comely women in the grocery store he works at and then scheme their nude figures. Granted, these gratuitous scenes are not the crux of the film, but they’re likely to be the most memorable to most viewers. As the camera slowly pans over (and relieve over) the striking nude female forms, the audience is to perceive Ben as an audacious young artist, not as a peeping Tom. The artistic presentation of the women, and the flashbacks to Ben’s childhood experiences do their best to give this impression, but the extended length of the scenes and their lack of importance to the final outcome of the anecdote, implies a hint of exploitation rather than simple artistic expression. For the most extensive witness at the indelible female accomplish since Striptease, Cashback has cornered the market. Cleverly disguised in the obtain of a romantic comedy, Cashback manages to comes across as an artsy British Garden Status meets Showgirls.

At times the film begins to saunter a bit, and points that seem to have precise significance to the myth are left by the wayside as original plotlines are picked up. This causes the film to play out almost episodically, like several short films strapped together. This is only fitting, considering that Cashback started as a short. Audiences will not be disappointed by the message of Cashback: “Sometimes fancy is hiding between the seconds of your life”, but they may fetch themselves wondering about the presentation of the message.

I am surprised by all the complaints I witness from other reviewers. We bought this in a two-pack with the Miss Spider DVD, because our 4-year-old had enjoyed the Miss Spider TV shows. After watching both of these “movies,” he did not want to leer Miss Spider — but he requested the Stellaluna DVD over and over.

We then got the book from the library, and renewed it for a while because it became a well-liked. We also deduced that he might have gotten a study at the book at preschool before we ever heard of it. In any case, our son was perfectly elated with both the book and the DVD versions, and did not have problems with the fact that there were differences between them.

The overall epic is the same, but the telling is different — as it HAS to be, to effect a video more than 10 minutes long. Well, in this DVD version, they’ve added a rather amusing “super-hero” jumping spider character, who provides a couple of pivotal place points. They also added a couple of birds who attempt a makeover on Stellaluna, which fails but teaches everybody a lesson about getting in touch with the person you are inside. That is, of course, the concept of the book but this simply accentuates it with some singing and some fun. These scenes seem to move greatly from the tone of the new book — but they do NOT go from its message. Our child enjoys them, but more importantly, I feel they assist the Stellaluna character perform a clearer sense of her occupy value.

The rest of the DVD completes the storyline with an ending that one would interrogate from a “movie” even if it’s not exactly the same as the book. And it is a grand growing experience, a learning experience, when a child sees the same record interpreted more than one procedure.

I mediate it’s a mountainous mistake for parents to procure hung up on the impossible goal of trying to dictate the “proper” version of every tale for their kids. Let them peep different ones, and settle FOR THEMSELVES which ones appeal to them more. Our child continued to seek information from the book long after seeing two different TV versions, including this one. They can coexist unprejudiced sparkling, so give your kids some credit and some leeway, and don’t contemplate things for diverging from your expectations. Being that judgmental of superficial issues runs contrary to the lesson of the book, after all!

It tells the same fable as the book, impartial in a different style, that’s all. On its occupy, or in conjunction with the book, it’s a handsome DVD, and a perfectly acceptable addition to your home video library. We found it to be a friendly surprise, and a superior deal.

My 4 year ragged was introduced to Stellaluna the book through her preschool class. They ended the series on Stellaluna by showing the video. My daughter loved it so worthy that she asked to borrow it from the classroom. I am so delighted to learn that the video is now available to lift! The video stresses that differences are ok and the music is very upbeat and fun! I higly reccomend this movie from preschool-early elementary age. My 6 year weak going into 1st grade enjoys the movie as well. A grand, wholesome choice that you will esteem as noteworthy as your child!

Season Six will include the Complete Cell Games. Savor this spot I Know I will. I was really hoping SS2 Gohan on the front of Season Six but it turns out to be SS1 Goku :/

Dragon Ball Z is the one greatest anime series ever created. With its action-packed universe and compelling storylines, Akira Toriyama’s magnum opus has never failed to please. This is the latest season region FUNimation has released of the series.

This spot picks up where the last one left off. The Z-Fighters have attempted to do battle with the Androids, but regain themselves outnumbered. As if things aren’t already abominable enough, Goku is bedridden with a heart virus. The Z-Fighters status different ways to content as the threat grows. And objective when it looks like things couldn’t derive distinguished worse, a current villain is thrown into the fray. His name is Cell, and he is collected of cells from various Z-Fighters and villains. He begins enthralling human beings to become more distinguished, and seeks to own the Androids, so he can catch further power and ascend to a stronger develop. The Z-Fighters now face their greatest challenge.

The DVD area is divided amongst six discs, and contains the Irascible Cell, Second Design Cell, and Perfect Cell sagas (the Cell Games Saga is NOT included, it takes up the entire next space.) The narrate has been subjected to digital noise reduction, and the dwelling includes a booklet of character profiles and episode listings.

Like earlier Dragon Ball Z season sets, the narrate has been cropped at the top and bottom (this was done due to excessive grain and harm to the unusual source), and it has been subjected to the digital noise reduction process. Obviously a lot of fans, myself included, were disappointed to peep the describe fetch cropped. While the digital noise reduction doesn’t do as thorough a job cleaning up the image as you’d hope, it IS the best these episodes have ever looked. In other words, it’s a “give and retract” scenario. On the other hand, the Japanese audio quality is bad, showing its age, but it does feature a well-translated subtitle track from Steven J. Simmons that lets you experience the series as originally intended. Is Dragon Ball Z EVER going to score its Japanese audio remastered?

Additionally, like the earlier sets, you have the option of watching the English notify cast played against the new Japanese audio.

Disappointingly, the next episode previews aren’t included. But they weren’t in any earlier season region, so it’s no spacious surprise.

No special features are included here unless you count the trailers and the same textless opening/closing sequence all other sets like this have had. On the helpful side, the spot does include a booklet similar to the earlier sets, with character profiles and an episode guide, making it handy to go fair where you need to go on the DVDs.

It’s another tremendous Dragon Ball Z season area, enough said. Easily some of the best material in the entire series. If you’re a fan of the series and don’t already have these episodes, you can obtain them all here for one indecent notice. Cropping issues aside, this is a sizable residence, and a excellent value, especially compared to the older DVD releases.

Highly recommended to any fan of Dragon Ball Z.

While it won’t come by the Academy Award this year, up against the stellar CAPTURING THE FRIEDMANS and THE FOG OF WAR, this film is mild well worth seeing. Despite being a personal tale that gives very itsy-bitsy background about architecture, I left it feeling for the first time that architecture is truly an art in its absorb proper.

It’s the personal nature of the film that does it. You contemplate how personally Louis I. Khan took his edificial creations– and how indifferent he was to other creations, namely his son, the filmmaker, who barely knew him. Everytime I gape Frigid Runnings, I level-headed feel the magic and excitement of the first time I watched it. This movie is exceptional. Everything about it works.

The acting is considerable, the record is both interesting and challenging, the comedy is unusual and scrumptious, and the soundtrack is perfectly salubrious to benefit the mood of the movie.

Cool Runnings is a perfect family film. People of all ages will be drawn to it and luxuriate in cheering for the Jamaican Bobsled team. Since John Candy is in it, I opinion it was gonna be fair another gigantic comedy. But I was scandalous, parts of it are humorous, but it’s more of a sizable drama movie.

I unbiased got my copy today, and save it in after watching the Blu Ray of Forrest Gump. Trust me. You’ve never seen A Christmas Carol until you sight this fresh Blu Ray. I was troubled and beside myself at how well this recent restoration turned out. The detail is unreal, especially for a film that has always looked so dreadful. It’s not flawless mind you, with the ocassional crop and scratch, but overall this is a fine transfer and worth every penny for an upgrade. The sound is quite nice as well. I take the unusual mono to the 5.1 track. Very positive and tell free.

The most important Christmas film ever made. Certainly the truest and most emotionally stirring adaptation of Dickens’ classic to this day, and most certainly to reach. How do I know this? Well, in the words of Puny Tim, “I impartial deem it”. The frail condition of the film and the fact that it was shot in dismal and white lend a sure authenticity to it, as if it were actually filmed in the story’s time period. Alastair Sim was born to play Scrooge. Even some of the finest actors can’t (and won’t) ever arrive the level he state. He was the “model Scrooge”. Sim was as equally convincing as a heartless miser as he was a man enlightened, redeemed and reborn. Other aesthetic actors could play one or the other but not both, at least, not convincingly. Sim is also supported by a very strong cast and crew. This classic version has Heart; It has Spirit like no other; It has believability; It has purpose. Honest the search for of a abominable small boy (Shrimp Tim) peering through a toy shop window and managing a smile even though he knows he’ll never have any of the toys he sees will be indelibly etched into your conscience. The music during that scene will conclude with you for many seasons to arrive. Somebody did a commendable job restoring this worship. Even the standard DVD (also restored and included) looks and sounds far better than any prior home video release, but it’s peaceful not perfect. Nevertheless, colossal strides in its restoration were made and I highly recommend it. But as far as the yarn goes, perceive it alone the first time, without interruption, and if you collect yourself touched and perhaps rubbing a jog from your gape at the destroy when you hear the words, “Can you forgive a pig-headed customary fool…”, ahhh, you’re there. If sacred art is novel to you, or you’re already familar with Alex Grey’s work, Artmind is an important foundation to your library. Inspired by a health expert (Psychiatrist), Artmind and two of Alex’s books (Sacred Mirrors and Transfigurations) are primitive as “assistance” for me to narrate different dimensions of my healing process that are difficult to do into words during my sessions. Artmind is keen in that Alex reveals intimate details about how he became a visionary artist, and opens his heart as a well-known teacher to educate the viewer about different spiritual traditions and how sacred art can empower your body’s innate healing processes. Also included in Artmind is a gallery of Alex’s paintings that the film maker displays with sensational animation construct and music. When watched carefully, “magic moments” happen, where the room fills with a colorful light, and an effable Presence.

I am floored. I didn’t reflect it was possible for Pixar to surpass Toy Narrative, but it has. A sophisticated treat for adults and teens, a cuddly romance for the juice-box residence, this comedic science fiction thriller romance (really!) takes the company to a recent, more former level. Filled with artistry, depth, meaning and a lot of humor, WALL-E is a masterpiece. Where Cars was a kid’s movie with added adult themes, this is an adult movie with added value for children.

DIALOGUE SCHMIALOGUE

Before I saw WALL-E I had read about the lack of dialogue, and how it might be a hazardous go for Pixar to get a film with characters that don’t talk in a old sense. Well, trash that. The most emotionally distinguished scenes in this movie are those with the LEAST dialogue. Fully developed and indeed almost human, the two main characters are Wall-E himself (the letters stand for Ruin Allocation Load Lifter-Earth Class; there’s also a WALL-A) and EVE (Extraterrestrial Vegetation Evaluator), two machines in admire.

After about a half hour I was wondering if Pixar could continue to pull off this less-is-more opinion for the rest of the film — then the two robots started playing Pong! Such imaginative screenplay carries the film to what should be a Best Characterize nomination. Seriously.

A TOUCHING STORY

WALL-E is a lonely shrimp robotic trash compactor who was left late after Earth was abandoned some 700 years earlier. He has been methodically cleaning up the trash-ridden planet ever since, and harboring a diminutive plant he has found among the garbage. Eve, meanwhile, lives on the ample spaceship Axiom, which is also home to the chubby, blob-like remains of the human hurry. She is a probe robot that flies to Earth to choose if the planet is ready for habitation. WALL-E takes one sight at the streamlined, angelic Eve and falls in worship.

It didn’t acquire long for me to plunge in treasure with the petite robot. As soon as he giggled (after his pet cockroach glad him) I was bent. This hardworking rusty guy with his puny home burly of mild treasures is so poignant. His lonely life is so human. Eve is fair as likable, but mighty more sleek. Reach the waste comes a heartbreaking moment when a key character seems to lose all personality, all self. So well done, it made me reflect of how families must feel when a loved one disappears inside him- or herself with Alzheimer’s disease.

All ends well, of course. As the credits roll, the artwork illustrates how everyone and everything lives happily after ever.

AN ADULT MEANING

For adults, WALL-E is not so grand about a cute cramped robot as it is about the future of man. What happens when humans become such creatures of the consumer culture, so rotund they can’t even stand up without assistance, living literally on auto-pilot, that they do nothing but remove cheap merchandise, stuff their faces at the Regurgitated Food Buffet and lie around watching video screens? Can they ever win wait on to the land and state their souls free? Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young asked that inquire decades ago; Pixar asks it today.

There is even a sly political reference. Broadcasting a message to the passengers of the spaceship, the CEO of monster corporation Choose ‘n’ Titanic — played in live-action by the inimitable Fred Willard, and named Shelby Forthright — says they will be continuing on their never-ending, hopeless flit to nowhere because they must “Discontinue the course!” Hmmm, haven’t I heard a president utilize that line?

EXTRA TOUCHES

WALL-E has so many fabulous touches! After the minute robot is charged using his solar panels, he “turns on” with a sound any Macintosh owner will see. The robot’s detached objects, considerable like the thingamabobs of The Dinky Mermaid’s Ariel, are things that are uniquely human: bubble wrap, an iPod, a Rubics cube, a singing plastic trophy fish and — blink and you’ll miss it — a carrousel horse from Walt Disney World. Especially inspired are the two things on this future Earth that are totally indestructible: a cockroach and Twinkies.

Stay for the credits. Recalling cave drawings, hieroglyphics, Monet and Van Gogh paintings and early computer graphics, the progressive sequence of art within them sneaks in the history of dialogue-free storytelling.

ANIMATED? REALLY?

The perceive of the movie is hard to characterize. In one scene, when WALL-E and EVE are investigating a fraction of bubble wrap, you can’t direct it is an enchanting film. It actually appears to be live-action. Likewise, the outer station scenes have the same level of realism as any of the Star Wars movies. The trailing tower of squiggly smoke that’s left slack by a launching spacecraft re-creates the Florida sky of a Station Shuttle start to a T. For the most share, it is only when humans are portrayed that you are consciously aware that what you’re watching was generated on circuit boards, not in cameras.

I’ve seen the movie three times, first in digital projection and then from a film projector. The digital showing was worthy sharper, which made all the realistic touches far easier to delight in.

MOVIE REFERENCES

It’s sure the Pixar folks are movie lovers; there are so many cinematic inspirations in WALL-E that I lost count. The “Attach On Your Sunday Clothes” sequence from Hello, Dolly! shows up — literally — maybe half a dozen times. (Disney World fans may also remember the song as one of the background melodies along Main Street U.S.A.) The Axiom spaceship’s computer is clearly an homage to HAL from 2001: A Set Odyssey; that film’s signature overture “Also Sprach Zarathustra” plays at a key moment. WALL-E himself combines the purrs of E.T., the attitude of R2-D2 and the moves of Charlie Chaplin. There’s a brief reference to Gargantuan.

OPENING CARTOON

The movie is preceded by a Pixar short, “Presto,” that had the entire audience I was sitting with in stitches. Its plot: When a magician neglects to feed his bunny a carrot, an escalating inconvenience results. It’s so nice to originate a feature with a cartoon. I wish other studios detached did it. (Disney fans will notice the magician’s hat is similar to the one customary by Mickey Mouse in Fantasia.)

SOUVENIR TOY

Might as well budget it in: if you bewitch your kids to sight this you’re going to be buying a souvenir. Here’s the coolest one I’ve found on Amazon: U Tell Wall-E.

Will it ever accelerate out? This continuous font of imagination from Pixar? With WALL-E, it definite doesn’t seek like it.
