The well-liked criticism of this toothsome film is that Gary Cooper, one of the icons of Hollywood, was “too frail” to play the lead against the youthful Audrey Hepburn. This is, quite frankly, ludicrous and almost humorous. Though Coop was 56 when the movie was filmed, he was tranquil incredibly fine, well-preserved, thin and as sexy as he had been in his prime. There isn’t a single moment where the viewer would doubt that this man wasn’t utterly believable in the role or womanizer and seducer extraodinaire. Audrey Hepburn would have been a fool to turn her nose up at this choice male animal, even if he was 30 years her senior.

Coop and Hepburn’s scenes together are all superior, especially the eminent film-ending yell scene, this one quiet makes one’s toes curl, even after 20+ viewings over the years. Maurice Chevalier is also charming in his role as Audrey’s father. The music, script and stellar direction by Billy Wilder create this an indispensable movie to view, to beget, and to fancy.

With two of Hollywood’s most glamorous stars, and (despite the amusing position) a consuming and witty script, this film is an evergreen, and one I never tire of watching.

Audrey Hepburn is keen as the spunky “Thin Girl”, a cello student who falls in cherish with a millionaire playboy bachelor, played with grace and charm (and quite a bit of humor) by Gary Cooper. Hepburn was 28 at the time, and looked younger, Cooper was 56, and looked perhaps older, but despite the age incompatibility, their chemistry together sparkles and sizzles.

The romantic cat and mouse game played by Hepburn to intrigue and salvage Cooper’s heart is all very innocent and sweet, and I always shed a few tears at the magical ending.

Maurice Chevalier as Hepburn’s father, a private detective specializing in matters of worship and deception is extraordinary, and gets most of the comic lines, and John McGiver, as one of Chevalier’s jealous husband clients, is also very funny.

The b & w cinematography by William Mellor is exceptional, and how the camera loves Audrey, looking attractive in an array of blooming gowns. There is also a quartet called “The Gypsies”, who serenade the lovers throughout the film with some terrific czardas, and the melodic song “Fascination”.

Light, frothy, and thoroughly toothsome, this is one of Billy Wilder’s most luscious films, and it’s a esteem for Hepburn and Cooper fans.

Total running time is 130 minutes.

Before virtual reality and before “The Matrix,” there was the 1983 film “Brainstorm.” O.K., this movie may not compare favorably with “The Matrix,” but it does involve some of the same tangential themes that that film deals with. The comparisons with virtual reality are righteous, though viewers tend to overlook this aspect of the movie. People usually associate the film, if they even talk about it today, with Natalie Wood. The actress died shortly before the film wrapped in a highly publicized boating accident, thereby cutting short a lengthy film career and giving this motion describe a stigma it aloof carries today. A viewing of “Brainstorm” shows the film is more than Natalie Wood; it is a compelling chronicle about innovative technology and its potential for misuse by grand forces. Not a particularly original movie dwelling, to be determined, but “Brainstorm” is level-headed an entertaining film largely due to its solid cast and extraordinary special effects. The movie holds up well twenty years after its idea, which is saying a lot considering how far film effects have arrive during that time.

The United States military leans heavily on Terson concerning the project’s development, threatening to consume funding if Reynolds denies the wonks at the Pentagon access to her research.

Running throughout these vast battles about the ethics of a virtual reality system and the increasingly authoritarian tactics taken by the military is the relationship between Michael and Karen Brace. The couple split up over Michael’s inability to balance his work with his personal life, a fact that Karen resents since her husband has neglected her and their son. Moreover, there is some sort of vaguely hinted at relationship between Reynolds and Michael Brace, a relationship that should hardly near as a surprise since the two have worked so closely together over the past decade or so. When Lillian Reynolds, a rabid chain smoker, records her death from a massive heart attack as it happens, Brace becomes fascinated with exploring this fantastic death sequence caught on tape. The government decides Michael is too unstable to continue working on the project, thus banning him from the building and removing his security clearance from the company computers. When you muck around with a genius, however, you must do positive you have all the angles covered. Brace enlists the encourage of his tech savvy wife and a few other friends from the company and hacks into the company’s mainframe in order to access the tape. What follows is an unbelievable special effects odyssey of examine and sound as Brace learns what happens when we die. In the process of playing the tape and risking his have life, Michael and Karen heal their problematic relationship.

The best elements in “Brainstorm” are the outstanding performances from the cast fused with wonderful special effects. Natalie Wood, although somewhat wasted in a smaller role, stops the heart every time she appears on cloak with her improbable beauty and solid acting. Christopher Walken does what Christopher Walken does best: act slightly exclusive by alternating between subdued silence and loud rage. Cliff Robertson and Louise Fletcher both excel in their respective roles, especially Fletcher, who as the changeable Lillian Reynolds is both believable and silly. Check out the scene when she dies from her heart attack yet takes the time to put herself to her wondrous recording plot. This is, I contemplate, exactly what a accurate scientist dedicated to exploring every mystery would do in a similar circumstance. As superior a job as the actors do, the special effects sometimes eclipse them. Apparently, the guy in charge of this film worked on Kubrick’s “2001,” and boy does it note. The final scenes in “Brainstorm” evoke memories of Keir Dullea’s psychedelic ride at the demolish of “2001,” except here they ogle better. It would be a titanic experience to observe this film in a movie theater.

“Brainstorm” is a splendid, idea provoking film I never tire of watching. The scenes between Walken and Wood are extraordinary, especially when they exhaust the reality procedure for their beget personal explorations. In this map, the movie moves beyond a mere science fiction potboiler into realms of romance and psychological drama. Sadly, the DVD edition lacks the sort of extras a film of this caliber deserves. You would judge a film this prescient would inspire the folks at Warner to pull out all the stops for the disc release. Well, anyone remotely familiar with Warner DVDs knows the company couldn’t give a darn about what their discs absorb. Too abominable. I will tranquil observe “Brainstorm” from time to time, but I secretly yearn for a special edition release in the arrive future–one with a commentary from Fletcher and Walken at the very least, along with some notes about the special effects in the film. If you like sci-fi, this is a must glimpse experience.

My god has it been 17 years since this film was released in theatres! I saw it as a kid and was absolutely blown away by it. Louise Fletcher deserved at least an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress…she tears through her exiguous screentime with a ferocity and vivacity that is rarely seen these days. When she’s confronting the government types who want to purchase the “mind-recording” machine she and fellow scientist Chris Walken have invented, it is truly a spacious acting moment. Her barking at boss Cliff Robertson to “don’t you goddamn me, sweetheart” and then proceeding to almost have a heart attack in the ladies room is a classic cinema moment. Natalie Wood had not finished filming all her scenes before her tragic death, but its hardly noticeable. She had that most astounding, expressive face and director Trumbel chose to believe on that in many key moments. When Walken plays support his memories of her (Wood and Walken’s marriage is crumbling), the joy on her face is so trusty. The music for the film is also wonderful…from the haunting opening rep to the joyous music that surrounds Walken and Wood on their fling. Fletcher’s heart attack, where she records her maintain death experience, is truly disturbing, and Walken’s attempt to play it encourage (which almost kills him) is also grisly. A handsome, doughty film. Fletcher needs more work like this. And of course, Natalie Wood is missed greatly.

I really enjoyed this movie as it is the beginning of the hilarious BBC series. It was an genuine movie and gave a itsy-bitsy extra info about how the cast came to be at Grace Brothers Department Store. It was fairly laughable but of course not as humorous as episodes in some of the following seasons. Well worth buying,and got it speedily.

After 5 seasons on BBC Are You Being Served, following the misadventures of the staff of a London department store leapt to the grand cloak, and fell flat on it’s face.

A grievous point of British film they were unbiased making successful TV shows into movies, some worked, most didn’t. In this case they were expanding on an plan from the TV present where the staff are told they will have to retract a vacation together. The quandary with the film is two fold.

First the actors are out of their usual element and while trying the jokes and routines seemed forced, the location up, a revolution breaks out in the banana republic to which they’ve gone, is so stupidly over the top that you can’t suspend disbelief.

Secondly the production values are terrible. What works in a TV indicate, a state of a department store, does not when you’re told you’re looking at a hotel in the tropics. I was reminded of sets from the ancient Carol Burnett variety reveal, and I’d like to apologize to Ms. Burnett for the likeness.

Overall this was nothing but a money grab, playing on the popularity of Are you Being Served the producers grabbed beloved characters and instead of taking advantage of the longer playing time and possible production capablities to manufacture a neat episode, one feels they did the thing on the cheap and the characters suffer by comparrison.

I adore Are You Being Served and it’s sequal, Grace and Favor, AKA Are You Being Served Again, but this is so not worth it. It is not up to the standard of the note or the ability of the actors. Go eye the episode where they idea a holiday together. You’ll have as many laughs as this gives you and attach and hour or so of time.

Steven Soderbergh created one of those movies that is lucky to have been made at all — a four-hour-plus biopic of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara.

But even split in half, it’s something of a mixed bag. “Che - Fraction 1: Argentine” is a visually beautiful and low-key allotment of work that focuses on the pivotal slices of Guevara’s life, with an improbable lead performance by Benicio Del Toro as the titular revolutionary. Unfortunately, it’s also a very slow-moving affair that brushes past some of the more unsavory facets of Che Guevara’s life and personality… and ironically many of the obvious ones.

In the 1960s, Guevara (Benicio Del Toro) is in Novel York City for a UN conference, being interviewed by a US reporter about his viewpoints as a guerilla leader and revolutionary. Then the myth jumps befriend a decade to when he and others (including Fidel Castro) reflect the many injustices over in Cuba and launch planning for a revolution. Despite being Argentinian by birth, Che follows them to Cuba and joins the guerilla revolution.

But despite his inaugurate as a medic, Che began showing talents in other areas, and becomes a leader of the guerilla outlaws in the Cuban countryside. He grapples with his gain ill health (asthma), the loss of his compatriots and the attacks from the military, which also threaten some of the non-revolutionaries — and as time goes on, their revolution gained power and scrutinize, and began the ultimate battle for control of Cuba.

Rather than the usual biographical movie format, Steven Soderbergh approaches “Che - Share 1: Argentine” as if he were filming a documentary. There are no scenes of miniature Che being kicked by a rich guy or melodramatic subplots — it’s quite literally a cut of the pivotal point of Che Guevara’s life, and a 1960s shakycaminterview adds to that feeling. As an added label of authenticity, almost all of the dialogue is in Spanish rather than poorly-accented English, giving a you-are-there feel.

Much of the record is devoted to the guerillas staggering through lush, richly green countryside, and living in very rough surroundings; while the storyline is rather tiring,, it speeds up gradually as Guevara grows in influence and the revolution really heats up. Pinging gunshots, explosions, tanks, tense chases through deserted streets and burning trains all play a section in the harrowing finale, all the more so because you know that all this mayhem actually took state.

Del Toro is, to establish it mildly, fantastic as Guevara — not only is he a dumb ringer physically (with the moral facial hair and clothes), but he exudes a unruffled charisma, literate intelligence and power that fabricate you look exactly why someone might follow him if they agreed with his politics. No one else in the myth really gets to stand out, but Del Toro simply IS the cast all by himself.

Yet ironically it’s a piously bland, virtuous portrait of Guevera. Soderbergh wimps out on the cruel, extremist sides of his personality and the regime he helped create; on the other hand, he also brushes over the man’s fierce intellect, his writing, and world interests. It feels like we’re looking at one mirrored facet of a very complex man, and surely more of who he was — the trustworthy, the poor AND the evil — could have been included.

It’s clear Soderbergh attach a lot of heart into producing the raw, realistic “Che - Fraction 1: Argentine,” but his glorification and simplication of a controversial figure drags the first half of his labor of appreciate.

As Guevera’s health deteriorates, the Bolivian army and the CIA steal measures to quash his guerilla forces…

The Astronomical Lebowski is on my top ten list of all time best films. I’ve seen A LOT of films by the map. I don’t need to account for to anyone why this movie is so intellectual, and why it continues to be a cultural phenomenon. I mention these things first because I don’t want people to feel like I’m giving the film one star. If I could I would give the movie 100 stars. What I’m giving such a terrible review for is my distaste for movie studios pumping out special editon dvd’s every few years because they know a film has a immense following. This unusual “bowling ball” edition of Lebowski is further proof that Universal has nothing but contempt for the fans of Expansive Lebowski. They wrap it up in a nice gigantic package and produce it glimpse slick, but that’s as far as the creativity goes into supplying anything original in terms of extras. Does anyone remember the dreadful repackage they gave it a few years ago with a towel and coasters? No proper extras existed, but they tranquil save it out as a revamped “deluxe edition”. Well, don’t inquire noteworthy more here.

The only current extras to this edition are four very brief featurettes. They feature novel interviews with all of the major players (with the exception of the Coen brothers, of course), but they mostly fair sit around and say stuff like, “It’s a tremendous film! It’s hilarious! Coen Brothers are geniuses!”. Err, yeah, we know all of that. It also has a featurette that centers around the Lebowski Fest which is vaguely intelligent for a few minutes until it turns into the same broken-down “Lebowski is large!” territory. The featurettes are a snooze fest to say the least.

What really annoyed me with this DVD, though, is that they included the SAME “Making of Immense Lebowski” documentary that has been on every release of this film! Not only that, it looks as if it was recorded from an old-fashioned VHS tape and plastered onto a fat hide format. It looks sinful, and what’s more, we’ve all seen it before! How many times is Universal going to pump out the same damn extras to the same audience?? It’s an insult to be charged more and more money for the same mediocre extras that were never that apt to open with. Luckily I was able to rent this and didn’t actually engage it! “The Colossal Lebowski” will NEVER have respectable extras until the people who created it (the Coen Brothers) are eager. We want a commentary, a beefy length documentary with in-depth interviews, and deleted scenes (and plenty of them!) .

DON’T Lift THIS EDITION. It’s junk! Simply hold the edition you already have (the very first edition) safely shiny that you are not missing anything with any other edition!

Here we are, its Shabas, the Jewish day of rest…white russians in hand, awaiting the special edition of the greatest movie ever made…and what do we win? A bunch of fig eaters wearing towels on their heads…this is not a grand adversary.

Compared to the novel DVD release which is at least 5 years extinct, this so-called special edition offers nothing modern except a outlandish intoduction and some on-set pictures from Jeff Bridges’ archives. Ample deal. Hell, this “collector’s edition” doesn’t even offer the teaser trailer and the luxury of both wide-screen and full-screen formats, as the fresh release did. The making-of featurette is the staunch same as before.

Basically, my associate and I have concluded that the Coen brothers have not achieved in the most modest task which was their charge. They have stolen our money and we have no choice but to warn you bums not to be swindled as we were.

Are we to have that for $13.00, all we have paid for is novel packaging, novel interactive menus, and some bogus special features. Am I also to bear that Jeff Bridges and the Coen brothers were too busy to even exercise a day recording commentary tracks and drinking some oat sodas? Hardly, dude.

Overall, this DVD did not tie my collection together. Go bowling instead.

My god, sirs, I will not abide this “special edition”.

This will be the 7th volume of Trigun leaving only 1 volume (4 episodes) left with this series. This DVD was really salubrious, unusual place points and you learn current things about some charactesr. But it didn’t feel like this series would waste anytime soon at the ruin of the last episode. So with that, it will be entertaining to contemplate how the series will raze. Maybe it will leave it begin for another series.

The video quality is like the previous volumes. The transfer looks nice, sometimes cramped parts annoy me. The audio is well done. I listened to the English dub, haven’t heard the japanese track yet. I am distinct both of them are really nice. The dub for Trigun is wonderful in my conception. I really respect this dub because the voices match the characters very well and that doesn’t happen mighty in many English dubs.

The three episodes are obviously challenging, ‘The Puppet Master,’ one of the Gung-ho Guns led by Legato. You learn some more about the substandard people and their base deeds (a lot of spoiled deeds in this DVD) . You learn some more about Vash’s past. Vash gets accompanied by Wolfwood and ditched Meryl and Milly. But they eventually earn him as always. More humor, more drama, more action!

Final Note: The DVD menu for this volume was simply astounding! It has the same interface as the other past ones but the nice music accompanying the nice background was fantastic. The menu is a photo album that opens up and flips through a few pages to net to the other pages. It impartial looks really nice and works really well with the subtle BGM.

What a titanic Anime series! I simply fancy the Trigun series and it gets better and better with every novel volume. Puppet Master is one of my favourites. It gives us more insight about the Planet, Vash and of course, Wolfwood. I adore these two characters and I detest to say this, but I usually cheer on the awful guys b/c I always fetch them to be mighty cooler. However not in this series, Vash and Wolfwood are astonishing character creations. I highly recommend this DVD for everyone simply because Trigun offers ravishing visuals, exact character development and an arresting and suspenseful storyline.

We have to remember that this is a movie of a Disney Run, not a myth.

Forgiving all the situation weaknesses - I loved the movie. It’s what we Examine not what makes sense that makes this movie astronomical.

Okay, a four hour gangster movie is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, especially when the pacing is absolutely glacial and DeNiro and Woods aren’t on-screen for about half that time because of a childhood flashback that’s longer than some elephantine movies. But, if you retract this movie on the terms director Sergio Leone sets, it’s a richly rewarding cinemeatic experience. I’ve heard the film described as “an opium dream of a gangster movie” and the pacing seems to interpret such a response. But it’s monotonous and richly detailed, and a runt exclusive at times, for very superior reasons that pay off in spades by the film’s emotionally mountainous (though slightly anti-climactic} finale.

Despite what can seem like turgidness on first viewing, this film is likely to stick to your ribs and merit recount screenings. DeNiro smolders throughout, while James Woods delivers a teriffic scenery-chewing performance. The epic is friendship (and betrayal, of course) –or is it Romulus and Remus? Greek tragedy, perhaps? Godfather parts 1 and 2 rolled into one film? Yes, and more. And viewers familliar with Leone only through his spagetti westerns are in for a surprise: Leone is a world-class film-maker here, first-rate of resplendent beauty and cruelty, often within the same frame.

Does it really need to be this unimaginative? Does the flashback to childhood need to be almost and hour and a half long (don’t worry–it’s spicy enough in its have suitable to maintain you from noticing)? Does the the chronology need to be so screwy? Does that darn phone need to ring so long? Absolutely.

Fans of Woods, DeNiro, Leone, or gangster movies in general canot afford to pass this film up. The supporting cast, especially the young actors playing the gang members in thier childhood, is also consistently stellar. Best viewed on a wintry icy afternoon when you’ve got plenty of time. Opium not provided.

“Once Upon A Time In America” is director, Sergio Leone’s sparkling account of organized crime and the destruction it unleashes into the lives of four life-long friends. Robert DeNiro headlines a cast of ample talent that includes Joe Pesci, Treat Williams and James Woods. When this film first premiered in 1984 it was 229 minutes. However, the subject matter was considered so violent and unpleasant, and the high-tail so methodically dumb that nearly 40 minutes were excised for general exhibition, rendering the anecdote line practically incomprehensible. I am jubilant to say that this unique 2-disc situation at last gives us the tale as it was originally intended, fat of robust characterizations, attractive action sequences and filled with the sort of memorable moments that have reminded me why we all go to the movies - to be entertained (not overwhelmed with way-too-many, ultra-slick digital effects!) .

Warner Brothers 2 disc dwelling does have its drawbacks. First, the movie itself is spread over two discs and, there is no polite diagram to say it, the interruption is obtrusive. The wreck happens true in the middle of a crucial scene. Interruption aside, the DVD is marred by noteworthy film grain and a bit of digital grit that acquire most of the images digitally harsh instead of creamy serene. Many scenes offer powerful clarity and depth while others, mostly night time or shaded scenes suffer from a loss of resplendent detail that disappears into a haze of undistinguished muddy blacks, browns and blues. Edge enhancement, pixelization, intelligent and aliasing are demonstrate throughout the transfer, sometimes distractingly so. The audio is remixed 5.1 and is strident and lacking in tonal bass.

Extras: Stunning considerable a retrospective and audio commentaries. Some toss away stuff. That’s it, that’s all!

BOTTOM LINE: For its sheer mastery in the art of cinema epic telling, I recommend “Once Upon A Time In America”. The transfer leaves something to be desired but hey, it’s nice to have this American classic befriend in the spotlight and, finally, in its plump running time.

I saw Sex Drive at a sneak preview. It’s a seemingly typical teen sex comedy in the vein of Superbad meets Road Flow. Zuckerman plays Ian, a young virgin with no luck with the ladies, a crush on his childhood friend Felicia (Crew), a jerk of an older brother (Marsden), and is best friends with an Austin Powers-esquire Casanova by the name of Lance (Duke) . On the internet, he poses as a football player while courting a mysterious girl online. When the girl invites him to go “all the design”, he steals his brother’s GTO and heads to Knoxville with Felicia and Lance. Ian’s character has the usual nerdy teen virgin-in-a-movie problems: falls for the harmful girls, takes few risks, gets caught in embarrassing sexual situations. On the road coast, they rush into a series of hilarious, awkward, and outlandish situations. And on the blueprint, they search for that sex isn’t the most principal thing, and that good appreciate can be found in both strange and familiar places.

It’s not exactly stunningly current, but it’s serene a hilarious film. The three leads do a graceful capable job, Lance being a particularly laughable character. Marsden and Green capture the explain in all the scenes they’re in, and all of the characters in the film are curious, even if most of them are stock characters. The script is also well-connected, with most of the characters being connected to the larger set, and combines wit, ribaldry, and straight adult humor well. Every gag sequence gets broad laughs, and the comedy never slows down or dies out. The internet cutaways are especially hilarious supplements.

It’s refreshing to glance a genuinely adult comedy not coming from the Apatow crew or McKay and Ferrell. Although it lacks star leads and filmmakers and will probably descend under the radar, I definitely recommend Sex Drive to anyone looking for a titanic laughs.

Plenty to read about regarding this film out in the Internet world. The trailers have been playing in the store for a month now and the buzz has been distinct (since no one got to recognize this in theaters) . Analyzing a high budget teen/sex comedy for acting is pointless, so I will stick with the BD quality and extras.

The special features have roughly 30 minutes of docus reviewing production and self loathing/lampooning of the cast: Marsden Quandary & Duke of the Internet clips.

The mountainous question: differences between the UR and R. Plenty to list. 20 extra minutes of gratuitous male and female nudity, longer takes of determined scenes (the two confident geeks verbiage, pool party, condom buying fiasco, left-in flubs, changed phrases, sex sounds [sheep, bjs, etc.]), most noticeably - CGI-imposed nudity in 20 or so random scenes with a graphic intro by the director/writer about what to examine in the UR version.

Overall, a comical film with plenty of comedian cameos, decent writing, admire searching, and sexual awakenings (even in the Amish country) . A worthwhile assume for fans of the film plus they kept it all one on disc (everything is the same as the 2 disc DVD) .
