I saw this movie on tv and then ordered it. It is a spacious movie as a followup on 2 families with diferent circumstances brought together almost by chance to develope finish interpersonal relationships to unite them making them each a fragment of the other. If no one had known the circumstances, you would have belief they belonged together to commence with. Wished it could have lasted longer.Or maybe a sequel to growing older together with grandkids???? Lea

“THE Imprint” was the #1 Rated Hallmark Channel Recent Movie which stars Genie Francis and Ted McGinley as Peyton and King return again with the the sequel, “The Impress II: Taking a Chance on Like”.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

“The Sign II: Taking a Chance on Like” is a cable movie that is featured in anamorphic widescreen (1:85:1 aspect ratio) and featured in English 5.1 (Dolby Digital) . Whereas the last film featured Peyton everywhere and ths more site shots, you serene procure a suitable amount of outdoor shots between her and King but also within the storyline of Eve Miller and her friends.

As for the audio, it is Dolby Digital and because the film is dialogue driven, it’s front channel heavy but dialogue is definite and concise. Not worthy expend of rear channel or subwoofer audio but there is no need for it.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The following special features are included on the DVD:

* Heart Healers: Genie Francis and Ted McGinley - (4:52) Interviews with Genie Francis and Ted McGinley about the sequel and having to work together again, talking about their characters and taking a chance on savor.

* Mother & Daughter - (4:12) Interviews with Genie Francis and Katie Boland about their characters and the relationship between Peyton and Christine.

* How It all Began: Notes on “The Impress” - (4:02) A summarized version of “The Mark” into four minutes.

JUDGMENT CALL:

“The Notice II: Taking a Chance on Admire” was another heartwarming film and for those who enjoyed the first film, it was stunning delectable to stare the characters reunite again.

As mentioned with my review of the first film, it was tall to examine actress Genie Francis again in a romantic role that is not “General Hospital” and also to gape Ted McGinley in a non-comedic role which he has played in for shows like “Glad Days”, “Married with Children” and “Hope & Faith”. Both have trustworthy chemistry and the storyline elevated their relationship for the viewer and overall, it was a well-told chronicle.

As for the 2009 sequel, I feel as if “The Impress II” was more of a televised film, whereas the first felt as if it had a bigger budget and higher production quality, I notify you can ogle the dissimilarity in film quality and of course, overall situation shots. But bare in mind that the first film is based on a current by Angela Hunt and had a feeling of a spiritual, holiday film. The sequel is written and directed by TV actor/director Douglas Barr (”The Drop Guy”, “The Worship Boat”, “Designing Women”) who designed the first film but again, the current was very strong on locations.

But by no means am I saying the sequel is a move because its not. It’s hard enough for a sequel to be objective as mammoth or better than its first but “The Designate II” was an savory film.

Where the first film was impartial emotional as it revolved around people who lost appreciate ones from a tragic airline shatter and finding treasure at the raze, “The Tag II” as grand as it was a yarn about Peyton and King’s relationship, the chronicle revolving around the character of Eve Williams was impartial heartwarming and the overall theme is “taking a chance on savor”.

Now, as far as the DVD is concerned, the first DVD had two lengthy featurettes with Angela Hunt and the other with Genie Francis about her career and playing Peyton. This time around, we gain two short features and one summarized video clip of the first film. It would have been colossal to have a director and talent commentary included with “The Heed II” DVD.

Overall, for fans who enjoyed the first film of “The Imprint”, the first was a nice nod to those who enjoyed the characters. Granted, this is not based on any fresh by Angela Hunt but I can easily recommend this film to those who were fans of the first. Definitely check it out!

I went to Brother Maintain not really intelligent what to put a question to. Some of the original Disney hand drawn lively releases have fallen short of expectations. I have to say that I was extremely impressed by the space and character development in this movie. The tale, while it is a relatively simple one, is one that draws you in and makes you care about the characters. And while many of us can sight where the status is going, the drag is highly delicious with some unexpected twists along the draw.

For those of you who don’t know what the movie is about, it is a coming of age movie about a boy who becomes a man by becoming a contain. Beyond that, it is about breaking stereotypes, and developing a respect for life. It is about dealing with infuriate and loss. The emotional intensity of this movie is noteworthy more similar to Lilo and Stitch or Finding Nemo, than it is to older hand spellbinding movies such as Aladdin or The Petite Mermaid. My four year frail is very sensitive and had to be held at several points during the movie. But my six year traditional loved it, and learned some distinguished lessons as well.

If I had anything negative to say, it would be that the music is not as memorable as I would have liked. I wish that they had asked Sir Elton John to contribute to the music for the represent. I like Phil Collins, but the music is too reminiscent of Tarzan for me. Peaceful, it’s not enough of a negative in this movie to gain me change my rating.

Overall, I deem that if they made more hand titillating movies like this, they could continue to attach them out forever. CGI is nice, but share of what makes Pixar movies memorable is the care given to the state. This movie will probably be one of the tremendous enthralling sleeper movies of all time–definitely can’t wait to absorb it on DVD as well.

“Brother Possess” has all the traits we are familiar with from Disney, but they are more nicely done than in some modern efforts. There is a mountainous sentimental theme (brotherly like), a soaring musical acquire, an earnest disaster to incorporate another culture into the film (Inuit), an ornery lead who has something to learn (Kenai), a loveable exiguous sidekick (Koda), and secondary characters for humorous relief (Rutt and Tuke, two goofy mooses, played by Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis re-enacting their “McKenzie Brothers” routine) .

Somehow it comes together better than most. The quality of the animation is ample, the characterizations clearer, the humorous bits genuinely humorous (my celebrated bit was the mooses’ penchant for doing yoga poses) . Moreover, the ending was a bit less trite than is sometimes the case.

Disney true-blue fans will definitely want to notice it, but even if you usually have a rude tolerance for Disney stories, give this one a sight.

Of all the so-called 9/11 conspiracy films, “9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions” provides the most compelling facts along side the most professional production, and has thus been widely praised by film critics and academics alike.

Refreshingly, the film refuses to participate in the emotional sparring that so often surfaces in this highly charged subject. Rather, in honor of those who lost their lives on that fateful day, the film sets out to perceive the rotund truth through an fair, even-handed glimpse at physical evidence, eyewitness testimonials and expert analysis. You will net no name-calling, politicking or crass appeals to emotion.

Through its careful investigation of the facts, the film shows how the official yarn not only fails to adequately account for the events of 9/11–it actually flies in the face of hard science. How can a 110-story building collapse at approach free drop speeds? What happened to the undamaged steel core columns? How was it possible that molten steel simmered under Ground Zero for months after the collapses, when jet fuel fires could not have melted the steel? These questions are not even addressed in the 9/11 Commission Recount.

Another mystery is WTC-7, a building that housed the United States Secret Service, the DOD, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Management, the IRS and the CIA and damning documents pertaining to the Enron Scandal. Although virtually ignored by mainstream media, WTC-7 also collapsed at arrive free drop speeds on 9/11. However, it was not hit by an airplane, and only suffered minor hurt.

Many questioned raised by this film have objective recently begun to surface, brought forth by valiant individuals who face persecution by a public who uncritically mob against so-called ‘conspiracy nuts’. This is quite ridiculous when one considers that the official myth of 19 Middle Eastern hijackers promulgated by the government was itself a conspiracy theory–a conspiracy theory with more holes than the complicity and demolition hypotheses place forward by scientists and academics like professors Steven Jones and David Ray Griffin.

It is my firm recommendation that you glance this documentary and read Griffin’s “The Current Pearl Harbor”–if only to counter balance any preconceived views you might have on the subject. Clearly, there is more to the 9/11 tale than is being portrayed in mainstream media.

j.w.k.

Edit of 11 Jun 09 to fix Tarpley and add links.

I read a lot, but lately I have been discovering the exact value of non-fiction DVDs. This is one of the best, one of the most principal DVDs that I have ever seen. I recommend it without reservation.

Although I am a very conservative person, my views have been radicalized by the friendly non-fiction coming from Webster Tarpley, Jim Marrs, and Michael Ruppert, among others.

This DVD systematically and logically covers the power blackout that turned off the security camaras and access devices, the withdrawal of the bomb-sniffing dogs, the heavy dust each morning in the days preceeding 9-11, the secondary explosions that strongly suggest a planned demolition of three buildings (one of them, WTC 7, not hit at all), and–quite interesting–the asbestos quandary that made the buildings, built in the 1960’s–a loyal loser unaffordable to fix or retract down. 9-11 was literally a $7 billion bonanza for its owners, at one stroke destroying the bulk of the complex to be cleaned up at taxpayer expense, and paying a DOUBLE insurance premium (in court, the claims that the two airplanes were two separate incidents rather than one coordinated attack, doubled the money paid out by the insurance companies) . Bottom line: I consider the US Government “let it happen” for its enjoy reasons, and Larry Silverman was tipped off and it was Larry Silverman, not the US Government, that brought the buildings down. If this is distinct to me after a cursory examination of public materials, I have to ask myself: 1) how considerable did Rudy Guliani collect for scooping and dumping to extinguish the crime scene? and 2) is the insurance company fraction of the scam, or honest listless?

I have to say, on the basis of all my reading and my believe past experience as a professional intelligence officer, that I am definite of one thing: this has not been properly investigated; and I am fairly positive of a second thing: 9-11 was known to be happening by a handful in the US Government and a handful in Israel as well as Pakistan, and it was welcomed as a cataclysmic event that would also be financially respectable to another handful. All of the suspicious activity began when Larry Silverman took possession of the complex.

Although I am less inclined to believe–without a favorable investigation–that 9-11 was in fact made to happen at the instigation of Dick Cheney among others, I do enjoy there is enough evidence about neo-conservative views that such an event was needed, to *demand* a public investigation. The 9-11 Commission was a whitewash, actually criminal in its negligence.

The taglines for this, the 15th Bond entry, promised- “The most uncertain Bond ever,” and proper there beyond the flippant fun that Roger Moore had brought, THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS came and made trustworthy on that shriek. In a frosty, totally decked-out Aston Martin, our current peruse propels himself into this, the last of the series’ Frigid War intrigues (furthermore being the final title penned by its creator, Ian Fleming) . And herein, the flavour of Fleming is found everywhere-

Having been a child of 007’s Roger Moore era, I had- on some seven different occasions during the course of his 14-year reign as Bond- looked forward with gargantuan anticipation to the very heights of fun and adventure. Moore, with his infectious charm and cheeky wit, was absolutely and completely consuming as Bond. So I was naturally a tiny edgy when, in 1987, he retired, to pass the torch to another actor.

I was in college, studying English literature when I heard Timothy Dalton would be the next James Bond. To me, this seemed an exceedingly absorbing choice- for here was a classically trained Welsh actor, who at that time had been fairly unknown. Yet I already knew him, of course: not only had he made his impression in some of the Shakespeare plays I’d been studying, but this ardent, sensitive actor had actually won my heart with his perfect portrayals of two beloved Bronte heroes- (Charlotte’s “Rochester” and Emily’s “Heathcliff.”) Needless to say, I fair couldn’t wait for this one~~

THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS is a gaze thriller in every classical sense. From the get-go, it’s exciting: the gun-barrel sequence, where John Barry’s blueprint pulses more like a flash to support in tempo with the motion of a more youthful 007- the exhilarating pre-credits: where, after a parachute jump onto the Rock of Gibraltar, a double-0 agent gets murdered and Bond jumps onto the roof of a speeding jeep as it hurtles down the cliff, and requites the assassin in like. He then lands emergently onto a yacht- where, by sheer coincidence, the bikini-clad babe onboard has been lamenting her failure to procure any “actual men” anywhere. Bond grabs her phone to call headquarters, introducing himself with a brisk offhand, “Bond, James Bond”. She offers him champagne and, as a consequence, he’s an hour unhurried reporting serve……..

After opening credits - Maurice Binder’s flowing artwork gracing John Barry’s title song- (a incandescent pop number performed by Ah-Ha that won’t ever let you forget it’s the 80’s), Bond reports to Bratislava for a seemingly unrelated assignment. Saunders, of piece V, Vienna (Thomas Wheatley) has arranged the defection of a top KGB agent, Georgi Koskov (Jeroen Krabbé) . Bond is called in to raze the sniper assigned to cancel Koskov if he should try to paddle. -This scene makes up the whole of Fleming’s short legend, wherein our hero turns over in his mind the conflicting implications of his work. Well, it’s apparent that this James Bond is definitely a man who, though despising determined aspects of his profession, is quite valid of killing an enemy sniper in frosty blood. The sniper, however, turns out being the dazzling woman cellist that Bond had only moments before been admiring. And Bond, who follows instincts before orders, observes, “that girl didn’t know one extinguish of a rifle from the other,” and instead of killing her, shoots the weapon from her hand.

Nevertheless, the coup is a expansive success. Hours later, in a reliable house on the English countryside- (wherein Bond shows himself to be a connoisseur of obedient food: “The foie gras is valid,” and champagne: “The effect on the list was questionable, so I took the liberty of choosing something different.”) -Koskov reveals a imperfect site by General Pushkin (John Rhys-Davies), the head of the KGB, to extinguish foreign spies- (”Smiert Spionen,” Fleming’s SMERSH term meaning death to spies) . Bond is immediately a puny skeptical of Koskov’s sage, and his suspicions are further enhanced when, shortly thereafter, Koskov gets snatched out of Britain by forces unknown -pulled off by henchman Necros (Andreas Wisniewski), disguised as the most menacing milkman one could ever imagine. For answers, Bond returns to Czechoslovakia to investigate that female “sniper,” and discovers she’s Kara Milovy (Maryam d’Abo), Koskov’s girlfriend. He then poses as Koskov’s friend in the hope that she’ll be able to locate him.

The inertia of this complex place carries Bond further, through a number of resplendent locales in the world- London, Vienna, Tangier, Afghanistan, and Unusual York. His mission involves drugs, deceit, diamonds, eccentric American arms dealer Brad Whitaker (Joe Don Baker), and the Afghan resistance, Mujahadin. There’s action aplenty - highlights being a car crawl in the Aston Martin fully armed, a ski perambulate downslope in a cello case, and a seat-gripping airplane plug I’d never in a million years want to whisk!

The leisurely 80’s had safe-sex everywhere afoot - even in Bond. Kara’s certainly endearing as the Bond girl, but she doesn’t acquire the conceal next to Bond so well as many of her predecessors. The villains are undeniably wonderful: a swarthy combination of the fearsome and the ludicrous. And Dalton’s tough, gritty Bond is as end to Ian Fleming’s creation that any actor has come- yet whether or not that’s a suitable thing is a matter of infinite debate. The cinematic Bond had already been well established by then. Like Connery, though, Dalton has a clear cat-like grace, albeit minus the twinkle in his contemplate. And though he brings an intensity to the character that even Connery could not hold, he never really does let loose - never hams it up or has the noted fun that every other Bond has had! But notwithstanding all that, I’m forever disposed to net him perfect.

The first thing that struck me about this film is that Timothy Dalton could act and he took the section very seriously. I found THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS to be one of the better James Bond films. I consider it is the best since ON HER MAJESTY’s SECRET SERVICE. I really liked Timothy Dalton as James Bond, the James Bond he gave us in this film (THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS) . He was not the hard edged civil servant but more of a thinking man’s blunt instrument as he demonstrated his reluctance to find the job done “their” plot as opposed to “his” intention.

John Barry delivered his last 007 salvage and it is one of his best. I also enjoyed a-ha’s rich and lyrical theme song played over Maurice Binder’s main titles, which are very reflective. This was also the last Bond film made during the valid icy war. We peek a worthy more shiny British agent discern that the KGB is not made up of a bunch of hoodlums but instead it is actually headed by an equally gleaming counterpart to “M” and the like. The unlit yet richly colored photography and locations bring relieve great of the feel of the earlier Bond films.

Timothy Dalton deserved to be around remarkable longer as James Bond based on his work in this film.

To commence out, this is one of my accepted books. So I of course started out with an additude to launch with, muttering that the book was always better. In this case, I was so rank. The characters portrayed in this film are the same ones I met in 5th grade when I first read “Exiguous Women”. The actors shine in their roles and truly embody everyone one of the literary creations they represents.

Playing the March matriarch, Susan Sarandon is broad! She is able to enjoy the feel of the period while bringing to Marmee an empowering bout of women’s rights thoughts. Sarandon gives off warmth and knowledge wiht the apparent ease of someone completely familiar with the material.

Wynona Ryder is another standout here. She is the raging bundle of emotion that we have all reach to know as Jo March. Playing down her usually new features, Ryder plays the fragment with spunk and earnestness.

My approved here is Christian Bale as the oft set aside uopn Theodore “Laurie” Lawrence. Quite a jump from his “Newsies” days, Bale is the best Laurie I have seen on cover to date. He has the mannerisms and lines down to perfection, while peaceful maintaining the spontanaity that really is a large share of Laurie’s character. He also handles the age jump incredibly well.

Not until my most novel viewing of the movie did I realize Gabriel Byrne was Professor Bhaer. The native irishman does a colossal job of bringing Frerdrick to life, apt down to his physical bumbling and poetic heart.

In my concept, this movie was a complete triumph and a complete success from unusual to film. All actors are exquisite in their roles, most exceptional, and it is such a joy to seek an ragged popular and all-time classic brought to life which such enthusiasm and talent. This is a must-see for any fan of the novel~although it will leave you yearning for “Petite Men” and Jo’s Boys” featuring this cast-which has yet to be done!!

This version of Runt Women is a classic in its hold proper. Armstrong did an fantastic job here capturing the period and coaxing sparkling performances from her cast. Ryder, Dunst, Alvarado, Mathis, Sarandon, Byrne, Bale and a heartbreaking Danes are all in top perform. Visually, the movie is fair fair and the soundtrack is mesmerizing. A must stare.

“Shrek The Third” might lack the originality of the novel film, but it’s smooth a very ample movie. Shrek is once again place into an melancholy plot, except this time around he isn’t trying to net Fiona’s heart or sign her parents. This time he’s been chosen to replace his father-in-law as the king of Far Far Away. He fleet finds out that there is one other potential heir to the throne called Arthur. Once he figures out where Arthur is located, Shrek, Donkey, and Puss area out to fetch the boy and convince him that he should be king. Before leaving, however, Shrek is weighed down with more pressure when he finds out that he’ll soon be a dad. While Shrek’s away, Charming gathers up all of fairytale-dom’s meanest villains (including Captain Hook and the Detestable Witch from “Snow White”) and stages a successful coup to become ruler of Far Far Away. Using Fiona and her friends as bait, Charming awaits Shrek’s return in order to carry out him off and become the rightful king.

I deem the reason that many people disfavor this film so great is that the spotlight shines considerably less on Shrek, Donkey, and Puss than it did it the previous films. Fiona, Snow White, Cinderella, Beauty (of “Beauty and the Beast”), Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty all gather a decent amount of camera time. Lesser sidekicks like Pinocchio and Gingey also choose the camera off of Shrek. Even Charming gets astronomical screentime along with his fellow villains. Does this develop the film any better or worse than the others? Not in my belief. In fact, the princesses add quite a bit of humor to the film (not to mention a sweet action sequence status to a hide of Heart’s “Barracuda”) . Charming and his companions also offer some fun moments. The addition of two other characters, Arthur and Merlin, also give the viewer more to laugh at.

I’ll agree with others who stated that the fart jokes and other sophomoric humor can be excessive, but no more than in the other films. In fact, jokes like that got the children laughing more than in the other two films which, in my conception, had more humor for the adults than this sequel.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Shrek the Third! Click Here

All of the unique boom talents construct it attend for the film, and a few unusual voices are added as well. These include Justin Timberlake, Eric Slothful, and a few dilapidated SNLers. It’s nice to explore that SNL’s castmates stick so discontinuance together.

Overall, this film is better well-behaved for the youngsters when compared to the other films. However, that doesn’t mean that the adults in the audience miss out on any of the fun. This will be a distinct take when it rolls out on DVD. I recommend it as a take.

Shrek The Third is a reliable movie with astonishing animation. I marvel at that animation! However, the area is objective average and it didn’t really maintain my attention the contrivance I hoped it would. I mediate after this Dreamworks needs to recede on to fresh do fresh characters in fresh films; but only time will remark if Dreamworks wants to milk this theme yet again. The voiceovers are very well done and the DVD has a plethora of extras.

When the action begins, Shrek (Mike Myers) and his wife Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) are filling in for the ailing King Harold (John Cleese) . Unfortunately, King Harold passes away and, with his dying wish, names Shrek as the rightful heir to the throne. This doesn’t sit too well with Shrek who has been suffering from public relations embarrassment to public relations embarrassment as he launches ships with such strength that the ship blows a hole and sinks–and more. King Harold says, unbiased before he dies, that the only other heir to the throne would be a young man at school named Arthur (Justin Timberlake) . Immediately after the funeral for King Harold, Shrek, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss-in-boots (Antonio Banderas) location fly to get Arthur at school. Things go downhill even more when Artie (as Arthur is called) is ambivalent at best to become a king; and it’s up to Shrek and his buddies to convince Arthur to become king.

Of course, things serve in Far, Far Away Land aren’t grand better. Prince Charming (Rupert Everett) and his cronies prefer over the kingdom and imprison Fiona and her friends including Fiona’s mother. Things ogle gorgeous bleak.

Of course, the region can go anywhere from here. (Yes, I know, you’ve read the spoilers by now but I won’t give them away anyway.) Will Fiona and the other women be able to fracture free and fight the unsuitable Prince Charming? How does Shrek react when he finds out he’s becoming a father? What happens to Puss-in-boots and Donkey when an venerable wizard accidentally casts a spell on them so that they are trapped in each other’s bodies? Peer the movie and obtain out!

The DVD extras are very extensive. The commentary is great; and I like the bonus feature that includes a man going through a storyboard of a deleted scene at the school where Arthur is standing on line to secure his lunch. There are silly “suggestions” from Donkey, Shrek and other characters as to how to deal with the problems of parenthood; and there are web links as well.

Overall, this is a favorable trouble and a movie to peep when a better one is unavailable. However, Shrek fans will care for this movie. This is best suitable for families with kids that are at least 8 or 9 years passe because of some obscene humor that you wouldn’t want younger kids to experience.

Woody Allen has said that European audiences are more receptive to his films these days than American audiences. Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008) is his fourth European movie, and in many ways his most French film yet. Location in Avilés, Barcelona, and Oviedo, Vicky Cristina Barcelona follows Allen’s London films, Match Point (2005), Scoop (2006), and Cassandra’s Dream (2007) . It stars Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation), Javier Bardem (No Country for Conventional Men), Patricia Clarkson, and Penélope Cruz (Volver), and tells the record of a lovers’ threesome. Shortly after arriving in Barcelona on vacation, two young American women in their 20s, Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Johansson), are invited by a smooth-talking artist, Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem) to employ a weekend in Oviedo, drinking wine and making appreciate with him. Because she is engaged to be married, pragmatic Vicky is reluctant at first. Cristina, however, is launch to the seduction. The two women secure Juan Antonio’s proposal, and accompany him to Oviedo, where they soon study the painter has a thing for his glorious, but emotionally unstable estranged-wife, María Elena (Cruz) . After Juan and Vicky drink wine and do fancy, Cristina, Juan, and María Elena soon regain themselves living together. It becomes evident to Cristina that Juan Antonio and María Elena are unexcited madly in savor with each other. Bardem and Cruz bring a chemistry to the veil that sizzles. Ultimately, the film then becomes a intriguing Woody Allen meets Éric Rohmer (Eric Rohmer’s Six Accurate Tales - Criterion Collection) meets Pedro Almodóvar (Volver) exploration of the dynamics of this sexually free-spirited lovers’ threesome, contrasted by Vicky’s more passe relationship with her stupid, Fresh York buttoned-down admire interest, Doug (Chris Messina) . Unbiased as Manhattan was central to Manhattan, Barcelona features prominantly in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, especially Gaudí’s Park Güell. Powerful like a well-behaved French film, this quick-witted movie ends on a price that is both poignant and sunless, with everyone a tiny wiser in the ruin. Once the celluloid admire poet of Manhattan, with Vicky Cristina Barcelona Allen reveals he is considerable wiser now when it comes to the ways of the heart. It is “a very sunless film” (as Allen calls it) only because of the message it sends about relationships. Some couples decide for convention rather than the madness of staunch cherish. Others, like Juan Antonio and Maria Elena, experience staunch adore with the level of chemistry we might call “soulmates,” only to catch they cannot live together. To utilize an archaic cliche, Juan Antonio can’t live with Maria Elena, but can’t live without her. Allen seems to suggest that all we can really hope for in the extinguish, after stumbling around in any relationship, is a petite wisdom. Dare I say that this is Woody Allen’s best work since Hannah and Her Sisters? Unlike that film, however, this is a really fine film Allen could have never made in Hollywood, which generally prefers feel-good esteem stories with happily-ever-after endings.

12/05/08 Update: Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Jarvier Bardem, Rebecca Hall, and Penélope Cruz all received nods for Golden Globe Awards this week.

In “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” Woody Allen begs to contradict another pundit of his age, Mick Jagger. Woody demonstrates in his latest movie that you can’t EVER score what you want, and you also can’t derive what you need. He demonstrates this in the tale of how Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson), two exquisite young Americans staying in Barcelona for a few months, react to the romantic overtures of the dashing, primally sexy artist Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem) . Vicky–a master’s candidate in “Catalan identity,” although she is not Catalan and barely speaks Catalan or even Spanish–finds that sex with Juan Antonio shakes up her previously solid feelings for her dullish American fiance, Doug (Chris Messina) . Cristina–a dilettantish photographer/filmmaker who is defined by the fact that she only knows what she DOESN’T want in a relationship with a man–finds greater satisfaction with Juan Antonio, at least until Maria Elena (Penelope Cruz), Juan Antonio’s volatile, insanely jealous ex-wife, shows up.

Some critics have opined that “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” is a hackneyed blast at naive Americans left at sea by European sexual sophistication. However, I deem it’s more a delineation of Woody’s basic understanding that happiness in savor is transitory at best. How can you possibly acquire up Juan Antonio and Maria Elena–who are constantly at each other’s throats, to the point that Maria Elena brandishes knives and guns–as an example of sexual sophistication? They can’t live with each other, they can’t live without each other, but she may ruin up killing him, herself, and a few innocent bystanders. As enacted in a scintillating performance by Cruz, Maria Elena embodies the eternal irrationality of admire, a blind craziness that–at least in Woody’s view–stamps an irrevocable expiration date on even the tenderest, most ardent appreciate.

Not quite a comedy but certainly not a tragedy, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” is a rueful commentary on the constant dissatisfactions of appreciate and life, made all the more bittersweet by the heartbreakingly stunning scenes of Barcelona and Catalunya wrapped in golden light by photographer Javier Aguirresarobe. The film offers us multiple pleasures–not least the favorable performances–yet, in the destroy, it feels exiguous. There are too many of Woody’s familiar tropes for us to recall the film at face value, especially the overly familiar characters; personally, I’m tired of the elegant, nubile young “Woody women” who are drawn vaguely toward a career in the arts yet are completely confused about everything except their need for hot sex. And, yes, Woody, we got the point decades ago that you contemplate life and the Universe meaningless; why do you always have to have one character in every movie (in this case, Juan Antonio) narrate that concept baldly? “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” is worth seeing, but it falls short of being one of Woody’s masterpieces.

I caught “Firebirds” in the theater during my first annual training with the National Guard after a 3 year Active Duty hitch. We were at Corpus Christi Army Depot doing what? Working on helicopters, natch. About 6 of us piled into a taxi and rode downtown to the el-cheapo theater for 90 minutes of cheesy salutes, whacky dialog, goofy actors and some stunning darn trustworthy Apache flying.

Is it lawful? No. Ask any Navy F-14 pilot how he felt in 1986 about Tom Cruise’s adaptation of reality and he’ll say the same thing that a lot of the Army Aviation folks have already said about Firebirds. That’s because in Hollywood, in general, if “accuracy” or “correctness” gets in the contrivance of “account,” tale generally wins out. (The certain mold-breaker here being “Band of Brothers”, but that had more to do with the recent account being highly proper) Heck, Top Gun’s technical advisor says he stil has a hard time showing his face at F-14 reunions. But he learned snappy that while some of the things they note in a movie might not be proper to the people who do it day in and day out, its peaceful a movie and they have to form it witness stylish or whatever. How absorbing would watching an Apache crew go over their 10-20 diminutive long startup map really be? No, they hop in the aircraft, flip a couple switches, throw their brain buckets on, suddenly the rotor blades are at flight RPM and off they go. I know that’s not reality, but I’m not watching this movie for reality.

With Firebirds, sometimes you unprejudiced have to assign your brain in neutral and delight in Sean Young in a flight suit that is 3 sizes too limited, Tommy Lee Jones going “full-tilt boogie for freedom and justice,” and Nicholas Cage laying out funny one-liners for a paycheck.

At the very least, in the Spring of 1990, six guys from a National Guard unit in Michigan had a spacious time in a cheap theater in Texas hollering at the cover, hooting at Sean Young, and cheering when the awful guys go down in flames. What more can you ask for?

Time to go retract the DVD for my “cheesy Saturday afternoon movies” collection.

(Silly side note: When Tommy Lee Jones is doing his early-morning urge on the flight line and all of his trainees advance running past him, that’s the Apache Training Brigade’s flight line at Ft. Hood Army Airfield. During the Gulf War, in January 1991, I was there for an Apache course, and our smoke-break set was on the exterior stairs of the hangar pictured in the background at the very launch of that scene. Kinda silly how that works!)

Jake Preston (Nicolas Cage) is a helicopter pilot training for war against a noted nemesis. Jake is the most skilled flyer of everybody, but he has a team of other helicopter flyers leisurely him including Brad Limited (Tommy Lee Jones), who helps Jake drawl to be an even better pilot.

I opinion “Fire Birds” was a helpful action movie. It might not be the best of its kind, but it’s certainly not a poor movie. The training sequences and the final showdown between the Fire Birds and their major enemy is animated. If you like action movies and especially if you like flying movies, I recommend getting “Fire Birds.”

This 40-minute TV special tells the sage of Rerun, Linus and Lucy’s very cute younger brother (I loved the scenes with him stuck on the support of his mother’s bicycle) . As the smallest child he feels left out of playing around with the other kids and wishes for a dog for Xmas. He starts a vast friendship with Snoopy but Charlie Brown is reluctant to let him go. Snoopy’s brothers also visit and cause considerable calamity.

It’s all harmless fun, if not completely indisposable. Though the DVD is where the sincere worth comes in. Included is a decent documentary on the current Charlie Brown Christmas, with interviews with cast members and the filmmakers. Also included is Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tales, a series of Xmas sketches featuring different Peanuts characters, lasting about 5 minutes each. Some very kiddie trailers are on there also.

The DVD is in 1.33:1 paunchy frame, as drawn, with Dolby 2.0 sound.

This hour-long Christmas special aired on ABC in prime-time last year, and it’s now out on DVD with two featurettes that were produced specifically to be tacked on to ABC’s fresh airings of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. One of them is a brief documentary on the creation of the new 1965 Christmas special with rarely-seen animation from the early sixties, making it a must-see for Peanuts historians.

There’s no underlying religious theme here - fair a string of family-friendly gags recycled from strips dating attend to the sixties. The only thing here that might confuse your pre-schooler is why any parent would name their kid “Rerun”. (It’s actually a nickname; Lucy felt alienated when Linus was born, and she experienced a “rerun” of those feelings when her recent baby brother joined the family. The kid’s actual name has never been revealed.)

Long-time Peanuts fans are making unflattering comparisons between this special and the 1965 holiday classic, but I contemplate there’s room on your shelf for both of them. This is a cute and amusing cartoon that the whole family can savor together.
