If you grew up with New York City’s WOR on your cable box, you have fine memories about their Thanksgiving Day marathon of King Kong, Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young. It’s was Big Apes that kept us on the sofa along with too much turkey. I so missed not being able to share that experience with my own family. But now I can thanks to this wonderful DVD set - that comes out just before Thanksgiving.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The King Kong Collection! Click Here

I had a chance to see King Kong on the big screen a few times and it’s still an amazing film. I don’t care what they can do with CGI, Kong still comes alive on the screen.

If only Universal would put out King Kong Vs. Godzilla, the experience would be complete.

Did anyone else around here enjoy King Kong vs. Godzilla Thanksgiving on WOR? Can I have a witness?

In 1970 and 1971 I was in the US Army stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. The Army had a string of theaters in the CZ which showed both current films and a selection of older films, all of them in 35mm and most of them subtitled in Spanish. This was where I first saw THE SEA HAWK, TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE and many other four star classics in 35mm. I went to see the unrestored King Kong print they played one week and I was shocked and amazed by the HUGE subtitles centered in the middle of the picture! A half year or so later and they had King Kong again, this time it was the version with the newly - discovered censored scenes restored…and no subtitles. The quality was stunning and I clearly recall that the aluring Miss Wray was very plainly not wearing a bra under her costume. I am very pleased that Warner Bros Video is releasing this triple feature on DVD - I feel they do the best all around job with film-to-DVD transfers.
DVD to ipod converter | DVD to mpg | dvd to psp
Watch NBA Basketball Games Online | Watch NBA Playoffs Online Live
mafia wars hack | mafia wars strategy guide | mafia wars cheatts
nc homes for sale | nc real estate | wake forest 27587 nc homes for sale
mafia wars strategy guide | mafia wars hack | mafia wars cheats

World War II adventure film about a Royal Air Force fighter-bomber squadron assigned to destroy a Nazi nuclear weapons research facility in Norway. Cliff Robertson headlines the movie as a former Eagle Squadron pilot in command of 633 Squadron with a colorful assembly of international pilots. They embark on the hazardous assignment with the target located inside a Norwegian fjord, guarded by an immense array of anti-aircraft artillery. Worth noting is the story was probably inspired by the real-life exploits of RAF Mosquito squadrons that conducted such dangerous missions, hunting down Nazi ship convoys along Norway’s rugged coastline.

The real attraction of this film is abundant footage of authentic World War II-era De Havilland Mosquito bombers used for the movie production. The scenes of these rare aircraft in flight are a delight, especially since there the are no airworthy examples left in the entire world today (the last one was lost with its crew in a tragic crash in 1996). The model airplane special effects are too obvious, especially when compared to the quality of “The Bridges of Toko Ri” starring William Holden. Nonetheless, it’s still pretty exciting and viewers can’t help but compare the squadron’s climatic attack in the treacherous fjord with “Star War’s” Jedi attack on the Empire’s Death Star.

The script and several scenes could have been better, but the authentic aircraft are worth watching. Overall a decent adventure, dated, but enjoyable if you’re a fan of the famous De Havilland Mosquito fighter-bomber built of wood, and flown by pilots in daring missions that helped win World War II.

For those interested, there’s a nice De Havilland aircraft museum north of London, England, on the actual grounds where these impressive aircraft were built. The original prototype Mosquito airplane, and another production model used in the later movie “Mosquito,” are on display.

This film seems to have attracted a number of interesting, positive reviews–there is little for me to add except to say that is is a fine World War II thriller, featuring Cliff Robertson, George Chakiris and a solid British cast in support.

Of course, the real “stars” of the movie are the Mosquitos–seeing them fly is a feast for aviation fans. Some scenes really seem to put you in the cockpit with our heroes as they train for their “mission impossible”. There is also a fair bit of model work involved, and this is perhaps the only area of the movie that is dated. Special effects have made huge strides since the sixties–when these planes crash or blow up, it is not done in a convincing way for modern audiences.

Cliff Robertson is fine in the lead–later in the decade, he was to win an Oscar for “Charly”, yet he has always been under-rated. His career certainly had it’s “ups and downs”–in the seventies, he blew the whistle on a Hollywood executive who was embezzling money, and good movie roles seemed to “elude” him for a while. Clearly, he is a man of great integrity. It was nice to see him, after so many years, have an important role in the monster hit, “Spiderman”.

George Chakiris aquits himself well as a Norwegian resistance leader. British character actors, Harry Andrews and Donald Houston, provide the mandatory “stiff upper lips” ! When the movie is over though, it is those fabulous planes that you remember most.

The DVD is widescreen, with decent colour for its age–the sound is mono ( imagine those Mosquitos in surround ? ! ). The packaging is very rudimentary, but I suppose this is in keeping with the low price ?

If you like war films with the accent on aviation, this one is for you. Try it !
mafia wars hack | mafia wars strategy guide | mafia wars cheatts
Watch Online TV Shows | Watch Sports Online | watch online movies
nc homes for sale | nc real estate | wake forest 27587 nc homes for sale

Apparently when writing his review laddie5 is unaware of Jeremy Brett’s heart condition that affected his performance slightly in his later performances as the world’s greatest “unofficial” Detective. Quite honestly, I think Jeremy Brett’s later performances as Holmes were among his best. Even up to the end. Everybody considers Basil Rathbone to be the definitive Holmes, which I think is utter nonsense. Most of the later movies with Rathbone as Holmes don’t even take place in Victorian England but have Holmes in current settings (well current in 1940) which I think is because they couldn’t afford the Victorian backdrops and all that. Jeremy Brett not only looks the way Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote the character, but performs the part with all of Holmes’s quirks and short comings. Such as his cocaine and morphine addictions (that’s right, Holmes was an addict).

This version of “The Hound of the Baskerville” follows Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s version very closely and is among the best productions of his the author’s most famous stories. Watson takes center stage in this story as he tries to uncover the Baskerville curse of a demonic hound that haunts the moors. Edward Hardwicke is probably one of the best screen Watson’s to date. Much like his predecessor in the Granada series David Burke (who did a great job as Watson), he plays Watson as the intelligent man of medicine that Conan Doyle wrote in his books and not the hamfisted bungler that has smeared the character since Nigel Bruce played the character. Hopefully, future productions of Holmes will continue this tradition with Watson’s character.

The production itself is very well done and atmospheric. A really fine cast (those of you who can remember will recognize the actor from “The Bounder”)and a brilliant performance by Jeremy Brett which does not lack in the least bit. If you are to buy any copy of “The Hound of the Baskervilles” make this your first. The definitive production starring the definitive Sherlock Holmes

In his foreword to Bantam’s “Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Novels and Stories,” Loren Estleman called the relationship between Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson literature’s warmest, most symbiotic and most timeless ever: rightfully so. Not surprisingly, film history is littered with adaptations of Conan Doyle’s tales and Holmes pastiches (stories using the protagonists but otherwise based on independent screenplays); and I don’t think any of Conan Doyle’s four original novels has been adapted more frequently than “The Hound of the Baskervilles.” Yet - and I’m saying this with particular apologies to the fans of the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce canon - none of the prior versions of any Holmes story can hold a candle to the ITV/Granada TV series produced over the decade spanning the years 1984 through 1994, starring Jeremy Brett as Holmes and first David Burke, then in near-seamless transition Edward Hardwicke as a refreshingly sturdy, pragmatic and unbumbling Dr. Watson; and this certainly includes any and all adaptations of “The Hound of the Baskervilles.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sherlock Holmes - The Hound of the Baskervilles! Click Here

Thus, this version of Conan Doyle’s spookiest tale stands out positively not only when compared to some of the other movie adaptations starring Jeremy Brett, which tend to over-emphasize a gothic atmosphere not present in the stories *those* movies are based on (particularly so, “The Last Vampyre” and “The Eligible Bachelor”), but also when compared to earlier versions of “The Hound of the Baskervilles.” Indeed, stripped of those other productions’ antics and occasionally not much better than B-movie-level special effects, the Jeremy Brett/Edward Hardwicke adaptation relies primarily on the superb acting skills of its stars and supporting cast and tells the story of the Baskerville family’s apparent curse in a relatively straightforward manner, which truly manages to terrify where earlier versions were merely unintentionally funny. Largely true to Conan Doyle’s original, this is also the only one of the movie-length adaptations that sees Dr. Watson performing an investigation of his own. (He embarks on similar, albeit generally less elaborate missions, in some of the series’s shorter episodes, such as “The Solitary Cyclist.”)

The tale’s storyline itself is well known: Sir Charles Baskerville has been found dead, apparently killed by a mysterious, larger-than-life dog living in the moors surrounding his estate and occasionally heard howling at night; allegedly a hound from hell haunting the family since the days of their evil ancestor Sir Hugo Baskerville. When Sir Henry (Kristoffer Tabori), latest heir to the Baskerville title and fortune, arrives from the U.S., Holmes is hired to investigate the mystery surrounding the beast. And “[y]es, the setting is a worthy one. If the devil did desire to have a hand in the affairs of men …,” Holmes soon comments on the setting of the Baskerville estate. But asked by Dr. Watson whether he is inclined to place any belief into the supernatural explanation of the phenomenon, he proceeds to point out that the devil’s agents may well be of flesh and blood, and that the only questions to be resolved in the matter are whether any crime has been committed at all, and if so, what that crime is and how it was committed. As (nearly) always, Holmes is of course proven right in the end.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sherlock Holmes - The Hound of the Baskervilles! Click Here

Jeremy Brett was the only actor who ever managed to perfectly portray Sherlock Holmes’s imperiousness, bitingly ironic sense of humor and apparently indestructible self-control without at the same time neglecting his genuine friendship towards Dr. Watson and the weaknesses hidden below a surface seemingly dominated by his overarching intellectual powers. And that dichotomy is clearly in evidence in this movie, where Brett, himself already afflicted by the illness which would eventually kill him, reaches new, intense and particularly great depths in Holmes’s soul. If you want to see the best of Holmes, therefore get this production, the equally well-done Jeremy Brett adaptation of “The Sign of the Four” and the collections of the series’s shorter episodes (particularly the first two cycles - “Adventures” and “Return” - are a “must”), enjoy and … have a good hunt, because - come on Watson: the game’s afoot!

HEROES and LOST are the 2 more ambitious grand scale Sci-Fi series on today’s TV. They both have in common stunning visuals spiked by well executed special effects, relentless action, a lot of it brutal and violent, intriguing story lines occasionally hinting critically at today’s social and political realities (government-sponsored torture, the erosion of liberties, the roles played by large and secretive transnational corporations), large casts of great actors and the promise of getting at some core secret that would explain ‘everything’ but which is always elusive.

Of the two, HEROES seemed to be on the verge of self-dissolution last year, following a promising Season One. I am happy to see the series back on track with a vengeance on Season Three.

HEROES Third season easily tops the first two seasons as the core that survived the frantic struggles of Seasons One and Two understand that ‘normal life’ is not possible for those blessed or cursed with super powers, not when a government that’s jealously trying to maintain its own monopoly on violence is after them and not when there are so many opportunities to ’save the world’. The plot slowly shifts focus from the first 2 seasons’ “HEROES vs. the Company” to their constant running and hiding from a secret branch of ‘Homeland Security’ determined to wipe them out but not before doing a little torture and experimentation on them. Not that what we would politically correctly call ‘people with abilities’ are all angels. Most of them are not and the struggle continues between the good and the evil ones where the good ones sometimes turn evil and some of the evil ones turn ‘good’, permanently or only for an episode or two but, interestingly, the old ‘company’ staff seems to be taking sides between the government and the HEROES and a lot of the plot is driven by their shifting loyalties and what appear to be their own personal agendas.

I hope I will be forgiven but I really don’t wish to give away any of the plot’s twists and turns because… this season’s HEROES is THAT good. It’s also possible that most have already watched many or all the episodes on TV and already have an opinion on what HEROES 3 was about. It’s probably a lot more productive to discuss the Blu-ray edition which I shall.

My conclusion on ‘content’ - following the somewhat disappointed ‘amputated’ Season Two, this Season is a true treat.

- PACKAGING

To my surprise, after being spoiled by some other very tightly packed seasons, this Blu-ray box is quite large. While the 25 episodes where squeezed on only 5 disks, the box is thicker than I expected. On the positive side, the disks seem to be held securely in place by a new and innovative locking mechanism.

There isn’t anything other than the disks in the box but brief summaries for each of the 25 episodes can be found on both the back side and on the interior wall that does not hold disks. The folding carton that holds the disks slides inside a cardboard sleeve.

- PICTURE AND SOUND

As expected, it’s 1080p video, 16:9 or 1.78:1 - meaning ‘full screen’ on an HD TV set, no top and bottom bands. Some of the extra features may be in lower resolutions.

The Sound is DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 with English Dolby Digital 2.0 on the features.

- PRESENTATION AND PLAY

The episodes, about 42 minutes each, run for close to 18 hours.

The menu is relatively well designed but it’s not perfect. The ‘Play’ option will play all episodes on a specific disk but, at least on my PS3, it could not resume play once interrupted. It was not possible to do a ‘play all but start from the second episode’. To do so, one would start with ‘Play’, then fast forward or press the chapter skip button to reach the desired start point. Or episodes could be played individually. Individual episodes are not broken into ’scenes’ in the menu.

During play, one can take advance of U-Control which can be turned on or off by pressing one of the colored buttons. During playback, Picture in Picture provides cast and crew commentaries. I found this distracting and I was glad to see that it’s possible to play the same commentaries separately from the menu. The other U-Control enhancement is the availability of Hero Connections ‘post it’ like notes that pop on the screen and provide some information about a specific character that’s meaningful within the context of the scene that’s playing at the time. Each disk allows for the viewing of the updated Connections network separately from playback.

BD-Live allows for the downloading of a Season 4 preview and, being ‘live’, it’s possible that more features may become available in time.

One annoying defect, at least on a PS3 is the playback becoming unresponsive once the Universal screen saver kicks in. After that, it’s impossible to resume watching - pressing play/pause/fast-forward would return ‘this feature is not available at this time’ and pressing STOP would get me out of the movie and force me to reload the disk.

- SPECIAL FEATURES

They are quite few and thin for this season and many are bad enough to almost cross into the ‘unwatchable’ territory. After being spoiled with treats such as the story/legend of Takezo Kensei on Season 2, this season’s disappoint. There are the obligatory ‘behind the scenes’ interviews but there is very little as far as ‘creative content’ is concerned. The short Pinehearst Commercial reminded me of the similar feature we watched while waiting to enter the Terminator 3-D show at the Universal Studios park in Florida and the Alternate Stories features are so bad, one wonders how they made it even as ‘extra’ features. Same for the Deleted Scenes - clearly, they were deleted for a good reason and watching them proves the director’s wisdom not to include them.

- RATING

CONTENT - 5 Stars

PACKAGING - 4 Stars (could have been thinner)

PICTURE - 5 Stars

SOUND - 5 Stars

PRESENTATION AND PLAYBACK - 3.5 Stars

SPECIAL FEATURES - 2 Stars (big disappointment)

OVERALL (subjectively weighted average) - 4 Stars

Heroes season three is not terrible like many people say it is. It’s definitely not the best television out there, but it’s at least better than the poor second season the show suffered from. This review is very spoiler heavy, so only look at the star ratings I give each volume if you haven’t seen them. Instead of writing huge paragraphs for each volume, I’ll just give a list of what I liked and didn’t like about this season and the individual volumes:

VOLUME THREE: VILLAINS - 3 stars

VOLUME FOUR: FUGITIVES - 4 stars

SEASON THREE

The good:

- This season expanded the the role and depth of secondary characters like Ando, Angela Patrelli, and Sandra Bennet. These characters are well acted and usually counter-act dumb decisions made by the main characters. Example: Hiro creates a stupid plan to get one half of The Formula from The Haitian. Hiro gets the attention of the Haitian to start his plan, but Ando just sneaks up behind The Haitian and knocks him out.

- Claire matures and becomes stronger as the season goes on, and it’s a good change from the ditsy cheerleader she’s been for the past two volumes. She is less reliant on HRG to protect her, and can take care of herself pretty well by the end.

- The heroes use their powers more often than they did in the previous volume, Generations, and this makes season three a lot more exciting. It gives you a better feel that they actually do have powers.

- Sylar was humanized in this season. In volume three, Sylar was shown glimpses of a normal life with a loving family. In volume four, Sylar goes on a personal quest to find his father and discover why he’s so messed up. Sylar was no longer a bad guy just for the sake of needing a bad guy, and it showed that he just wanted to be loved by someone this whole time.

- This season was more action packed than Generations, and has a couple fights that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was a disappointed that there were no epic battles, but the fights they did have made good use of the abilities everyone had.

- The characters began to question if the means to justify the ends. Many times the characters do gray things to accomplish their goals, and it’s interesting to see how they react.

The bad:

- Nathan’s family is completely forgotten. This could have added a great conflict within his character like it did in season one, but the writers don’t seem to like them at all. Claire’s boyfriend West was completely forgotten about too. No one ever mentions them, and they never show up. They’re not even back in the current fifth volume.

- This season reused old plot devices from the previous seasons way too much. How many comics did Isaac Mendez paint and write before he was killed? Does everyone and their mom have the ability to paint the future? How many flashback episodes are we going to have? Oh, and Heroes tricks you into thinking Nathan died… AGAIN. That’s three times by now. These are particularly annoying in volume three, but Heroes start moving away from them in volume four. There were also way too many opening narrations in volume three.

———–

VOLUME THREE: VILLAINS - 3 stars

The good:

- Villains gives us the luxury of actually knowing the heroes’ mission from the first episode. In Generations, the heroes’ mission wasn’t clearly presented to us until the seventh episode. This volume is about trying to stop The Formula from falling into the wrong hands. The Formula gives anyone abilities when it is injected, and it will eventually destroy the world if it is allowed to be mass produced.

- Mohinder gives himself abilities, and then starts to mutate as a result. I thought this was a good way to give Mohinder motivation, as he needs to perfect The Formula in order to reverse his mutation. It was also a very human thing to do. If I had been studying people with super powers, but didn’t have any myself, I would jump at any chance to get one. Wouldn’t you?

- Once the volume found its footing, it was very streamlined and better paced than Generations. One complaint I keep hearing about Villains is that every episode had a different direction, and that Heroes kept creating and dropping storylines each episode. This is true early on, but stops at about episode six. Starting with this episode, the writers quit screwing around with the storylines and got their act together.

- Angela manipulating Sylar into thinking she is his mother. This was pretty cleaver on Angela’s part, and showed that Sylar just needed a parental figure to guide him. Sylar too showed that he is capable of compassion, but he still has very low self-esteem even when he’s happy.

- Arthur Patrelli is the best villain yet. He put his wife into a coma, wants to kill his son Peter, wants to manipulate his other son Nathan into becoming a puppet president, steals any power he gets his hands on, killed Adam (he was really getting on my nerves by the time Generations ended), and the actor playing him is wonderful.

- Daphene is a great addition to the Heroes gang, and her character becomes very well developed in Villains. Matt’s storyline was pretty blah before he met Daphene, but after that the two worked very well together. I liked her relationship with Matt, and she gives you the most realistic sense of having a power out of all the heroes and villains this volume.

- Hiro being suspicious of Ando because of what Hiro saw in the future. Their arguments were a great vehicle for giving Ando a voice, and it showed that he wasn’t just a nameless tag-along like in seasons one & two. Hiro loosing his memory was a good twist, and worked to show us a lot of his past. This storyline had lots of fun writing to complement it, so these guys on screen was usually a high point for Villains.

- This volume fixed Peter’s and Hiro’s powers to be more balanced with everyone else on the show. I know this divided fans, but they were just getting too powerful for them to be in any real danger. Now Peter can only have one power at a time, and Hiro is powerless for a lot of volume four.

The bad:

- The creating and dropping of various storylines. I’ll go into more detail below.

- Tracy Strauss. She was a terrible, terrible way to replace Nikki. She’s a triplet sister of Nikki? Are you really going to insult with that kind of excuse? Her character overall is pretty good, but wow that was stupid. There was nothing to hint at this before, and they never even think about trying to find the third sister. So it’s a stupid character replacement AND a dropped storyline. Come on writers, we’re not goldfish.

- Sylar’s Hunger. Why was this needed? Sylar’s reasons for taking peoples’ abilities was already well established. There’s no need to add another thing which was never mentioned or hinted to at all. It was an interesting twist when Peter gained Sylar’s ability of understanding (and subsequently the Hunger) to save the world, but all it did was make Peter do stupid things. The Hunger thing was dropped when the volume ended, and to add insult to injury, Peter didn’t even need Sylar’s power to save the world anyways. Nice going guys.

- Mohinder traps people in these cocoons for no reason what-so-ever. They never even give a throw away line to explain it. He just does it for to look creepy, and nothing else. This is also dropped half way through the volume.

- Heroes tries to link solar eclipses to people’s powers. This is wrong. Heroes already showed that the main characters gained their abilities months before the first solar eclipse (season one episode “Six Months Ago”). They use another solar eclipse to temporarily shut off everyone’s powers (which is actually interesting), but those episodes are poorly written and are pretty lame overall.

- The Level 5 Prisoners. I was excited about these guys when they broke out, but then they become a total non-issue the very next episode. Oh, and one of them is killed for no other reason than Sylar can’t control his Hunger. Please don’t make me laugh Heroes.

- Peter’s story was changed way too many times early on. First he was trapped in a Level 5 escapee’s body, then he was brought to the future and absorbed Sylar’s ability. He absorbed Sylar’s ability of understanding to know how to change the timeline, but all it did was make him evil for no reason. He’s then put in a chemically induced coma for a couple episodes, beats the crap out of Sylar, looses his all of his powers, and THEN the writers stop messing with him. I swear I almost got whiplash from his story changing so much. Peter got better after they stopped messing with him, but he was pretty painful to watch for a while.

- Some characters acted dumb way too many times. I already explain Peter’s dilemma, but Claire and Nathan also do lots of stupid things in the first half of Villains. Claire becomes smarter as the Volume goes on, but Nathan is pretty dumb throughout.

- Maya. She was already useless and annoying enough in Generations, but she’s even more useless and more annoying in Villains. Every second she was on screen I felt like offing myself.

- The writing and acting is very uneven in some parts of this volume. This happens mainly in early episodes, but also ruins the two part episode “The Eclipse”.

- What happened to Matt’s family? I already explained about Nathan’s family, Matt’s disappeared for this volume too. Peter also forgot about his girlfriend trapped in the future.

- They retconned Sylar and Elle into a relationship. Turns out that Elle, to spy on Sylar before he was evil, was in a relationship with him. She was found out, and Sylar started killing people because of this. It’s not because of the well established reason of Sylar having mommy and daddy issues. The reason which is used as one of the main plot devices in this very same volume. If they had developed a relationship without the retconning, it wouldn’t have felt nearly as forced as it did.

———–

VOLUME FOUR: FUGITIVES - 4 stars

The good:

- Fugitives is about the government rounding up people with abilities to keep the population safe. Nathan, HRG, and new villain Danko leading the operation, and this creates resent from Peter and Claire. Danko, while not as evil as Arthur, is certainly a man on a mission. He’ll stop at nothing to capture everyone with abilities.

- Fugitives goes back to the simpler story telling that the first season had. No jumping back and forth through time like Villains did, and less storylines get more screen time each episode. Plus no super-Peter and super-Hiro makes things more tense now.

- As I mentioned above, HRG and Nathan are leaders on the round-up. This causes major rifts between the Patrellis, and they become more fractured than ever. Slowly though, they come together after going through hell and back. This shows that the Patrellis, under all of the bizarre events and hate that flies between them, have an unbreakable love for each other.

- Claire feels guilty about HRG protecting her from Danko, so she forms this type of Underground Railroad for people with abilities. Sandra and Claire form a deep mother/daughter bond through these hard times, but the Bennets break apart after Sylar and Danko manipulate them. It creates a very neat contrast between them and the Patrellis.

- Daphene is pushed out of the way early on. She was very good in Villains, but she feels forced and annoying in Fugitives. Her being shot also gave Matt good motivation to resist the government too. She ultimately ends up dead by the end, so she can’t annoy us anymore.

- This volume explores Sylar’s real family history. We get to see how washed up his father really is, and why Sylar was given up for adoption in the first place. Sylar’s last shreds of humanity are destroyed with this, and he goes on a crusade to destroy the world after meeting his real father.

- Heroes begins to move away from its tiring plot devices with this volume. Most episodes aren’t narrated at all. There is some future painting stuff early on, but this is dropped after the first 3 episodes.

- Former co-executive producer Bryan Fuller was brought back in the middle of Fugitives. He started moving the show in the direction of the season one episode “Five Years Gone”. He penned the season’s best episode “Cold Snap”, and changed the volume’s story when he learned Sylar’s dad was originally going to be the main villain.

- We’re given insight into the founding of The Company and the history of Angela. It gives a lot more depth to her and clears up the confusion about her connection to The Company.

- Hiro must deal with having no powers, and is jealous of Ando having powers. This creates another interesting dynamic, and is a nice change from the mainly playful Hiro of the past 3 volumes.

- Matt’s family returns this volume, and he even has a son. It gives him a sense of purpose after Daphene dies, and it shows real world issues like his wife Janice worrying about the safety of Matt and their son. It’s nice to see the writers haven’t completely forgotten everything from season one.

- The writing and acting are more consistently good compared to Villains. The early episodes are much, much better compared to Villains too.

The bad:

- Mohinder is non-existent this volume. He has some small parts, but for most of it he’s left in the dark. It seems like the writers had no idea what to do with him after he got powers, so they just decided not to do anything with him.

- There are very few secondary characters in this volume. With the previous ones almost upgraded to main characters this season, there isn’t much extra to spice things up. Sylar had one that made no difference, and Claire had one that ended up doing nothing in the end too.

- For over half of this volume Tracy was locked in a cell, and didn’t make much of a difference until the last few episodes. What a great way to under-use another character.

- The final battle is cut out. This is the dumbest thing Heroes did the whole season. Peter, Nathan, and Sylar are having an epic battle, and all we see is Claire’s reaction to the scene. Really, if you don’t have the budget, don’t have it at all!

- The writing, while on average is better than Villains, is still not as good as season one. It got close a couple times, but missed the mark.

This season is still not close to season one material, but it’s getting there. Season two was just so boring that it killed a lot of the show’s momentum. I think the good out weighed the bad in both volumes, but the show is still healing. Season three is not worth $60 in my opinion, but it’s your money. The current season (Volume Five: Redemption) is the best since season one, so let’s see if Heroes can truly redeem itself.
mafia wars hack | mafia wars strategy guide | mafia wars cheatts
DVD to ipod converter | DVD to mpg | dvd to psp
convert dvd to avi

I have always loved this movie. Sure, it’s a little bit kooky, but Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon just about has it all: plenty of kung fu action, comedy, romance, great vintage mid-80s music, a little bit of funk styling, and plenty of tributes to the great Bruce Lee; it is also the only film I know of whose two main characters are known by only one name in real life. I actually saw this film twice in the theatre back in 1985, and I can say that of only a few movies. Taimak plays Leroy Green, better known around the New York streets as Bruce Leroy for his impressive kung fu skills. His pursuit of the martial arts is a search for truth and mastery of self, and he is only one step away from acquiring “the glow,” a state of being wherein mind and body are one. His pursuit of a new and final “master” keeps getting sidetracked, however. Sho’nuff (Julius Carry III), a particularly nasty dude who proclaims himself to be the Shogun of Harlem, is constantly provoking him and baiting him to fight. Then he finds himself the fated protector of star video jockey Laura Charles (Vanity), who is constantly being kidnapped and pressured into showing a certain video on her show. Eddie Arkadian (Christopher Murney) is determined to make a star of his untalented, Cindy Lauperized squeeze Angela (Faith Prince), and he will stop at nothing to get her video on the air. All of Leroy’s enemies, naturally enough, come together for a slam-bam martial arts extravaganza finish.

Laura Charles naturally quickly develops some affection for her knight in flowing Asian robes, and a pretty darn innocent Leroy struggles to overcome his shyness in the ways of love. It makes for a rather sweet as well as comical budding relationship. There is ethnic humor scattered throughout the film, all of which I found funny and in no way offensive - by way of example, there is the somewhat Asian fellow trying to act like Bruce Lee because he thinks that alone will scare away any opponents. The music is great; Debarge’s video for his hit song Rhythm of the Night gets prominent placement in the film, as does a rather illuminating performance by Vanity which seems a lot sillier now than it did 18 years ago. Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson contribute to the soundtrack, and Willie Hutch provides a couple of great tracks.

The best thing about The Last Dragon, though, has to be the martial arts. I know this was a somewhat cheesy martial arts film, but I still enjoyed all of the action. This is due in no small part to the fact that clips of Bruce Lee movies are shown at several points in the film, and a scene reminiscent of the huge melee that took place late in Lee’s Enter the Dragon is a really nice touch. The whole thing with “the glow” was cartoonish in conception and execution, yet it too was pretty cool. I think The Last Dragon is just a great, entertaining film, but it is probably not for everyone. If you have no interest in martial arts, the romance and sometimes goofball comedy of the film may not be enough to satisfy you, but anyone who enjoys seeing everyone kung fu fighting should have a heck of a fun ride over the course of this somewhat underrated movie. It always leaves me feeling pretty juiced up and positive about life, which is a pretty nice feeling to take away from any movie.

SHO’NUFF! THE SHOGUN……OF HARLEM!

This has got to be one of the funniest and cheesiest Kung Fu movies I have ever seen. However, don’t let that disuade you from looking into this title. I gaurantee you’ll have a blast watching it!

Martial Arts student Leroy Green is on a quest to obtain an elusive power known as ‘The Glow’. However, in his search to find the one Kung Fu Master who can teach him this final level of Kung Fu greatness, Leroy must contend with the evil, powerful Shogun of Harlem, known as Sho’Nuff!! Aside from that, Leroy must also rescue a beautiful singer from the clutches of an obsessed record producer, who dreams of his no-talent wife having the spotlight! Now, Leroy has two foes to contend with, as well as strive to obtain The Glow!

It sounds cheesy…but don’t let that fool you. This movie, quite surprisingly, is a ton of fun to watch! The action is actually pretty good, with some surprisingly decent special effects toward the end. Julius J. Carry III is hilarious as Sho’nuff, the meanest, the prettiest, baddest mo’fo in all of Harlem! And there is no denying it…when ‘The Glow’ song begins to play later on in the movie, you will find yourself wanting to do karate kicks right out of your seat!

My only gripe: For a DVD, the picture quality could’ve been ALOT better. The sound is restored very nicely, but the picture suffers from dark overtone, making scenes that take place in dark areas very difficult to see. Other than that, the disc has two sides, one of which is Widescreen, the other Standard. There are a few extras, such as the theatrical trailer, and very small theatrical bios of Taimak(the main character) and Vanity.

With a great soundtrack…, featuring music from the early 80’s (such as Stevie Wonder and DeBarge) and the original track ‘The Glow’, crazy hijinks, great fighting sequences and decent special effects, any kung-fu fighting fan should enjoy this movie. Whether its the fighting, the comedy, or just the Shogun of Harlem, Sho’nuff himself, you should have a BLAST watching this movie. Definitely watch with a group of friends!

‘Bow down…and kiss my Converse!’

Notice: At one point in the movie, we see a very brief and early performance by one of today’s more popular actors, William H. Macy!
Watch March Madness Online | Watch live sports 2010 | College Basketball Final Four
homes for sale nc | nc real estate | durham 27703 nc homes for sale
mafia wars hack

This is a definite keeper for any wrestling/animation fan, kid muscle, meat, terry kenien, dic dic van dic and wally tusket are the new muscle leaguers and have to defeat their common foes like the infamous dMp and Generation x, with hillarious outcomes and the funniest gags, good announcing and great animation, this volume is the best of its kind out there. 10/10.

“Ultimate Muscle”, next to ‘Shaman King’, is my favorite in a collection of edited animes from 4kids. Yes, it’s edited and many purists hate that, but even so, this show has some snap-and-charm to look forward to. It has a mess of over-the-top wrestling action and ‘unique’-looking wrestlers with some wacky Japanese humor on the side. It may not have a deep story, but with all the fighting and the funny this series continues to bring, watching “Ultimate Muscle” makes me feel good. Now people who didn’t get a chance to see the first episodes of this good-time series, due to the FOX BOX’s limited rerun policy, can now get a second chance on vol. 1 on DVD. Is it too much of a salvation for you or what?

In vol.1 of this series, it began in Muscle planet where Kid Muscle, a.k.a Mantaro Kinnikuman a.k.a. mama’s boy, runs away from his home planet so he won’t be training to become a wrestler. Being in a cowardice position, using a spaceship, he flew to planet earth to hide. Later, he met Meat, his later-on coach, and later, his opponent, Addversarious. Running away as the Kid Muscle we viewers knew and laugh, he finds his inner strength and began battling against Addversarious. Eventually, little Kinnikuman has been discovered by the crew of the Muscle planet and was then taken away to Muscle training camp; moving on to vol. 2. As far as I know, there’s not going to be much pinnacle points in this volume, but then again, I was one of many people who’ve hardly seen the first episodes either.

The price is reasonably cheap to get three or four episodes on DVD. On the downside, certain web resources say this DVD would have the original Japanese track with English subtitles. Well, it’s a lie; I checked, there isn’t gonna be one. Big disappointment, but that doesn’t really take this series down a notch IMO; in fact, I would’ve prefer the dubbed version anyway. For one thing, 4kids tries its best to make this show less forgetable than its Japanese counterpart, and it executes. The voice acting is well done. Marc Thompson, who voiced Kevin of Daria, does a fine job on his role as being the kooky, whiny wrester that is Kid Muscle; the others were good as well. And then there’s the US names; they’re actually better than the JP names. Come on, would you prefer ‘Dik Dik van Dik’ or ‘Gazelle Man’, his JP-named counterpart? If it wasn’t for the name, DDvD wouldn’t be so lovable and well-recognized. A dik dik, for people who are getting the wrong idea is a small antelope, says a lot; a gazelle doesn’t say that much. Oh, and for a dose of incomprehension, there is Addversarious’s Japanese name: Blood Killer…Blood Killer? I don’t understand; what the heck does that even mean?!

If you like wrestling, watch “Ultimate Muscle”. If you like comedy, watch “Ultimate Muscle”. Either way, you’re going to love someone about it. Believe me, watchting it on DVD will make you hum the joyful ‘Cow with Rice’ song again and again.
DVD to ipod converter | DVD to mpg | dvd to psp
homes for sale nc | nc real estate | durham 27703 nc homes for sale
convert dvd to avi

Ok before I start, let me clarify something: Unlike the reviewers before me, I have actually SEEN this movie, so my review is not based on the graphic novel of which the movie is based, nor what the movie might be like based on who’s behind the making of it. I HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE. Now that thats out the way, onto the good stuff.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Superman/Batman: Public Enemies! Click Here

I know a lot of Batman, Superman, and Batman/Superman fans were holding their breath on this one. With all classic the DC Comic character movies coming out lately (some of them not as good as others) it was reasonable to assume that “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” the movie could have gone either way. Well good thing for the loyal fan base, this was definitely a hit. I can say I am more then pleased with how this came out, and I have every intention of buying this DVD and watching it again the day it comes home with me.

One thing is abundantly clear when watching this movie: WB Entertainment, and more importantly, DC Comics actually LISTENS to their fans. One of my (and others) biggest fears in this was that we were going to be hearing some sub-par voice acting for the main characters involved, i.e. Superman, Batman, and Lex Luthor. As with past offerings from WB Entertainment (”Superman: Doomsday” for example) we got some weak casting for the voices of Lex and Sups. That alone detracts greatly from the overall enjoyment of the movie. With Public Enemies however, we have the best voices ever cast for the starring 3 roles: Tim Daily as Superman, Kevin Conroy as Batman, and Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor. For those who could give two flips about these guys, they are the same voices from the popular shows Justice League Unlimited, Batman The Animated Series, and Superman the Animated Series.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Superman/Batman: Public Enemies! Click Here

On top of superb voice acting, the animation is crisp, sharp and just plain beautiful. Again, faithful to fan feedback, the artists from Justice League Unlimited seem to have had their hands in this project, because the art is pretty much the same (which is by no means a bad thing), and it looks great. Almost straight from the comic.

Speaking of which, as far as the story goes, keep in mind while watching this that its an adaptation to the comic. That being said however, the movie stays remarkably faithful to the story told in the comic. Minus a few altered frames, scenes and situations, its like reading the comic all over again, except with no imagination needed to enjoy it. The story in general is a very good one, highlighting Batman and Superman’s friendship and giving you a glimpse into how deep it really goes. Granted, you get more of that in the comic then you do in the movie, but the movie compensates for the lack of inner dialogue with good script writing, full of the humorous exchanges between Sups and Bats and emotional moments and outburst we know and love from our favorite caped heroes.

This is a great movie, and you don’t have to have read the comic first in order to enjoy it. Even the review value is moderately high, I can and WILL be watching this again as soon as I can, and some more times after that. This is worth price, grab it and enjoy a motion picture work of art.

Peace

So I watched Superman/Batman:Public Enemies twice in one day after I got it. And I will keep this review short as most of the main points have been hit by the people who reveiewed this already (at least the ones that waited till it came out). So here’s my break down and the end will be final comments.

STORY:

It was adpated from Jeph Loeb’s first arc on the ongoing comic. Love it or hate it, but it was a very faithful adaptation, streamlining something that was basically a set up for the subsequent arcs as well as Infinite Crisis. It was silly, and balls to the wall, and the only gripe I had was not explaining why the Robot was a better choice than Luthor’s missles (Answer, robot was made of Metallo, not the guy, the alloy.) But hey all and all I liked what they did.

Characters (voice and portrayal):

WHOA! Okay I read the comics and almost forgot the laundry list of vilains who come out the cracks for the bounty. Batman and Superman were pitch perfect and their banter was great after seeing them so serious with each other all the time in Justice League and JLU. Tim Daly returning for Superman was great to have, though I’m one of the few that feel George Newburn’s performance as the character is just as good. Kevin Conroy and Clancy Brown however are the quintessential Batman and Lex Luthor respectively. Props to getting CCH Pounder to return as Amanda Waller even if the charatcer model looked horrendous. Lastly the supporting charatcers were great. However I wonder why so much fuss was made about LeVar “Reading Geordi LeForge’s Rainbow” Burton as Black Lightning when he had one line. Killer Frost was a throwaway villain that had more to say. *Sigh* Wasted talent.

ART AND ANIMATION:

Again based on the source material, the art style took a muscular turn and was fully mimicing Ed McGuiness’ style where every male looks like a “Masters of the Uninverse” figure. I personally love his style and always though it would translate well to the screen. I was mostly right. They made Superman look too young, and I think it’s because of the eyes. McGuiness does the squinty look better than most, and we see this in Captain Marvel’s design, and in the comics Superman has the same look sometimes. That plus the cheekbone line makes him look a bit older. Well probably out of fear of backlash (last time they put lines on his face people said he looked too old, and in “Doomsday” he looked even older)they elft those lines out and he looks too young. Everyone else in my opinion looked fine. Okay Powergirl’s eyes bugged me too but I was distracted by something else.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

I liked it. It was a great action flick, and didn’t need too much character development. It’s Superman and Batman, if you don;t know who they are why are you even picking up te movie. It’s a buddy flick with wall to wall action. My biggest issue is it felt rushed. At 67 minutes it’s like 15 minutes shorter than previous releases and could have really benefitted from them. That said if you like the characters and you like action this is worth it.

AFTERTHOUGHT:

The preview for the next upcoming animated feature, Jusitce League: Crisis on Two Earths was great. Yes I know after Public Enemies going back to new voices will suck but they got some good ones. Mark Harmon makes a pretty good Superman, I’m on the fence for Billy Baldwin as Batman (needs to be grittier), James Woods does an amazingly devious and twisted Owlman, and Gena Torres was great as SuperWoman. Hope you enjoy!
DVD to ipod converter | DVD to mpg | dvd to psp
mafia wars hack | mafia wars strategy guide | mafia wars cheatts
mafia wars strategy guide | mafia wars hack | mafia wars cheats

I have seen all the Peanuts movies, and this is the Peanuts movie that really makes me cry no matter how many years I have been watching it for (since around 1979 or so, when I was 5 or 6). It deals with the fact that Snoopy has gotten a letter from his former owner, a little girl named Lila. She is sick in the hospital and asks him to come see her (how did she get Charlie’s addresss? Maybe the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm kept the Brown’s address, and she asked them for it). He goes to see her, and then comes back. He then tells the rest of the gang (by typing out that he is leaving some of his worldly possessions to them, since he can’t speak) that he must return to her. Here’s where the sad part comes in–the going away party, and one of the saddest songs you’ll ever hear in your whole life. It really hit me hard because my best friend at the time had moved away, and it always makes me think of that. This movie to me deals with losing a best friend, and then them coming back to you, which is what happened with me in real life. Also, you get to learn the story of how Charlie Brown got Snoopy in the first place (an incident on a playground resulted in Charlie’s parents going to the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm and picking out Snoopy a their dog). But, as with all the Peanuts movies, there is a happy ending…I think that you could figure out what it is, because even I’m happy in the end after crying my eyes out :)!

I don’t even remember seeing this one when I was growing up, but I used to have it on videotape for my oldest daughter. I recently got it on dvd and my youngest daughter was mesmerized (her first intro to Peanuts), my older daughter was thrilled to see it again, and even my husband stopped what he was doing and stood in the doorway for a bit before reluctantly sitting down to watch the rest.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Snoopy, Come Home! Click Here

It is done so well, and it’s such a good movie!

It starts off with great scenes of Snoopy playing with the Peanuts gang (and Woodstock– his first appearance anywhere). Snoopy surfing, helping Peppermint Patty build a grand sand castle, just enjoying life as only Snoopy does! But, then he finds himself excluded from the beach the next day as a “No Dogs Allowed” sign appears. And then it seems there are “No Dogs Allowed” signs just about everywhere. Charlie Brown gets angry at Snoopy and Snoopy is a bit unhappy. Just about this time, we meet Lila– a sweet lonely little girl in a far away hospital. Remembering when Snoopy belonged to her, she writes Snoopy a letter.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Snoopy, Come Home! Click Here

When Snoopy receives the letter, he becomes all teary eyed and, with Woodstock, begins the journey to visit Lila.

Though Charlie Brown is sad to see Snoopy go, Snoopy must leave and he and Woodstock find the journey itself to be quite an adventure. And, once he finds Lila, Snoopy has a difficult decision to make. This one is a definite tear-jerker!

Vince Guaraldi’s music is absent here– all the songs are written by Richard Sherman and Robert Sherman. As I remember finding fault in this while watching it on videotape years ago, I was completely happy with the music now. Vince Guaraldi’s jazzy piano might be more fun, but the Sherman tunes were truly delightful.

Snoopy Come Home is one of the best Peanuts movies– completely charming from beginning to end!
Watch March Madness Online | Watch Final Four 2010
Watch March Madness Online | Watch live sports 2010 | College Basketball Final Four
mafia wars hack | mafia wars strategy guide | mafia wars cheatts

For those of you that will or want to screech about how technically incorrect this movie is, remember this movie was made and released in 1944. That means it was made and released during the Second World War. The U.S. government was loathed to confirm the fact that a sea battle even took place near Midway Island, let alone disclose what our force make-up was or what our or what it believed the enemies real battle looses were.

Additionally, in 1944 it was still unknown for certain what was results of the Torpedo Bombers attack. It wasn’t until after the war that it was learned what actually happened. Although it is true that the Torpedo Bombers didn’t get hits on the Japanese Carriers, the real point is that the TBF Squadrons took nearly 75% casualties in this battle, that if it wasn’t for those brave men who gave their lives up at very-low altitude, the Dive Bombers coming in from 12 to 15,000 feet above the torpedo attacks may not have got the chance they needed to get through the Japanese air cover. Once again, it’s also true that in 1944 none of this information was either known or if suspected, any where near releasable to the population as true.

Heck, one of our submarines reported sinking one of the 4 Japanese carriers and was actually credited with the sinking. That was until post war interrogations of the Japanese sailors that fought at Midway revealed they saw submarine torpedos hit a carrier during the air attacks and break up, without detonating.

By the way, the character portrayed by Dana Andrews was right to be worrying about Japanese radar. Because even though the Japanese didn’t have radar on their ships at Midway, the United States Navy thought they might have radar and trained its Carrier Wings to expect its use. When you get right down to it, this film is as technically correct as the US Navy in 1944 could be.

I saw `A Wing and a Prayer` at least 30 times on board US Navy ships and on TV since 1946. I bought the VHS copy I’m reviewing now about two years ago. If you like classic war movies made during WWll, this is one of the best. It`s a fine film, with excellent acting.

During W.W.II the Hollywood movie studios, as a part of the war effort, created many war films that were of a genre loosely known as “propaganda films”. These films generally presented the movie goer with the same three basic points of view: 1. Why we need to fight W.W.II 2. We not only need to fight, but we need to fight as a team. 3. The going is tough now, but if we persist we will win. Many people (me included) think these movies presented the best of American values. —— “A Wing and a Prayer” is an excellent example of this type of movie. It follows the exploits of “Carrier X” and her crew through the desperate opening months of W.W.II when Japan, following the US Pearl Harbor disaster, was seeking to destroy the remnants of the US Navy by engaging them in a decisive large scale sea battle, and remove them as a Pacific threat. We learn, though the death of several U.S. aviators, the reasons why they are willing to die for their country (why we fight). The cocky young “movie star” pilot (”Oscar”) who thinks mainly of himself, at the beginning of the movie, is forced, by the end of the movie, to make a decision that weighs his own life and that of his crew against the lives of the men of “Carrier X” (sacrifice and teamwork). Finally we are shown that if we persist in our just cause we can, through sacrifice and teamwork, succeed against overwhelming odds (defeat of a large Japanese task force by a smaller American force). Though “Carrier X” is never identified, it is rumored that it is loosely based on the exploits of the USS Yorktown. Although the accuracy of everything from aircraft types used, to damage inflicted by and upon the enemy, and the accuracy and order of specific events can be questioned, the one thing cannot is that, in general, this situation actually happened (The Battle of Midway). —- Finally, when considering your purchasing dollar, this is an excellent period film that belongs in your library, it can be viewed and reviewed, and still remain fresh and entertaining.
for my favorite tv show. Yes, this season was a major departure from the original premise of the show, some people may be put off by how different it is. It’s more violent, more disturbing, and much more intense. But it had me on the edge of my seat during almost every episode and I loved the new additions to the cast, specifically Demian Bichir. Mary-Louise Parker was phenomenal, and I loved the direction Andy’s (Justin Kirk) character took. There is still humor, but it’s much less zany. My one criticism is what they did with Doug - he simply doesn’t fit in well outside of Agrestic. But Nancy’s progression from small-time dealer to a player in a Mexican drug cartel and its moral implications whose fascinating to watch, and Jenji Kohan turned in a terrific finale, as usual.

I don’t see how anyone can only give this show one star. This season was definitely different, but it was about time they headed off in a new direction. The characters all had a fresh start in season 4 after most of Agrestic burned down. There are some really funny subplots and big surprises along the way. Many times I found myself wondering what the hell Nancy was doing and how could this possibly turn out okay for her in the end? But that only added to the suspense and my enjoyment. My only true criticism was that Conrad and his family were not accounted for. I hope they make a comeback sometime in the future to stir things up!
mafia wars hack
convert dvd to avi
nc homes for sale | nc real estate | wake forest 27587 nc homes for sale
